Their army was preparing on the battle field, which was far from the palace, this is where Embrey had told Eira to meet her, and where the battle would take place. Loki pulled Thor aside to talk to him.
" if Eira tries to go up against Embrey, and she hesitates, finish the job for her" he told Thor, Thor was confused.
"What makes you think she'll hesitate?" He asked, loki looked around, a little reluctant to explain.
"Because I did, when I was trying to kill you. You have no idea how many times I had second thoughts. and I was evil, even when my mind was twisted and distorted, I still had a hard time trying to kill my own brother. Eira's a good person, she won't be able to just go and kill her sister. So if I'm not there, I need you to step in" Loki explained. Thor nodded, and Loki started to line up with the rest of the warriors.
"But you're wrong" Thor called after him, Loki turned around. "I saw every time you hesitated, I saw every time you had a second thought, I knew it wasn't easy for you. why do you think I never gave up on you" Thor said with a half smile, Loki was about to say something when he heard shouting:
"They're here!" Loki looked at Thor.
"Here we go" he said nervously, Eira came running up to the two of them.
"Loki, Thor, she's here" she said, trying to keep calm but feeling her heart pounding. The two armies now faced each other, and in no time at all, the battle ground was being stained with blood, warriors from both sides were falling, Loki noticed many men, and even women, who were to young to be soldiers, fighting against Asgard, he had to remember that it was Asgard against Muspelhiem, and he almost had to let his heartless self come to the surface in order to do what had to be done, but every time he had to kill a young girl, he felt his heart ache before remembering what she had been fighting for. Thor saw Asgard's soldiers falling all around him, he saw people whom he knew personally and considered friends. The ground was soaked with blood, the stench of dead bodies filled the air.
warriors had to take weapons and armor off of the bodies of dead friends because their own had been damaged or worn down, Eira gave her sword to a woman who had lost her own, and she was now only using her ice and her bow. the battle raged on the whole day and into the night, but with no sign of Embrey, finally the army of Muspelhiem drew back, most of their soldiers were dead, and those that weren't had fled, Asgard claimed victory over this battle, but it was hard to be happy about that when they were surrounded by death. the remaining warriors looked around them, seeing their loved ones lying dead on the ground, loki saw a young man run over to a young woman and hold her body in his arms saying: "my love, my darling, please come back to me" he instantly thought of Eira, they had been separated during the fight and she was now nowhere to be seen. "Eira! Eira where are you!" He shouted above the sound of everyone weeping for their lost families.
"I'm fine!" He heard her shout from a distance. He ran over to her and held her close to him.
"Are you alright?" He asked, trying not to think about what he would've done if she had died.
"I'm fine, I'm fine." She said pulling away, and looking around at the dead, it seemed to overwhelm everything else. After their army had set up camp, Eira sat on the ground, looking up at the stars, silent tears falling down her face. Loki sat next to her.
"One hundred" she said, staring off at the sky."One hundred what?" Loki asked."One hundred children lost both their parents today" she said taking a deep breath.
Loki didn't know what to say or how to add light to this darkness. Eira buried her face in her hands. She knew it wasn't her fault, but she couldn't help but feel a measure of responsibility, all of this was because Embrey held a grudge against her, and if she had let Embrey take her life earlier that day, this might have all been avoided. Loki took her back to camp, where the remaining soldiers where waiting for their return, those that were wounded were being taken care of, and those that were still fine were standing guard. Loki led Eira into a tent and told her to try to sleep, and that he was going to be staying out, helping keep guard. She tried to sleep but couldn't, every time she closed her eyes, she saw people, falling dead for Asgard.
