Loki realized that during the fight he and Eira had gotten separated, he started to panic at first but then saw her laying in the snow. He came over to her and saw that she had a cut across the side of her face.
"Eira, are you alright?" He asked, helping her up. She nodded, but looked dizzy, she held on to him to avoid falling again. He looked around and realized that during the fight they had gone pretty far from the city, and now couldn't see any sign of civilization. He looked around and saw a cave not too far away.
"Hey, can you walk?" He asked, he really didn't want to have to carry her, he was having plenty on trouble keeping himself up on his bad ankle. She nodded and they started walking. In a few minutes they came to the cave and loki helped Eira to sit down without stumbling.
"Are you alright?" He asked in concern, she nodded in reply.
"Are you?" She asked, motioning to his ankle, he sat down next to her, he was able to focus on other things during their escape, but now that nothing else was going on, he was starting to really feel it. "I'll be fine" he said, but she could tell he was in a lot of pain. She could also see that he was freezing cold, neither of them were very well dressed for the cold.
"Here, I'm guessing this is yours" she said, taking off his cloak and handing it back.
"Don't be silly, what kind of friend would I be if I let you freeze to death?" He said with a smile, putting It back on her, She stared at him for a moment.
"How did we know each other?" She asked. he didn't answer, he put his hand on her face and turned her a bit so he could see the cut.
"Let me take care of that" he said, ignoring her question. He ripped off the bottom of his sleeve and wet it in the snow and started to lightly clean the blood off her face.
"Can I tell you a story?" He asked, trying to find something to take both their minds off their pain.
"Okay, sure" she replied.
"There once was this prince, he had everything anyone could ever want; family, friends, people who cared about him. The only problem was that he was the second son, and his brother was heir to be king.
his whole life he was jealous and envious of his brother, so mush so that he wasn't grateful for everything else he had. his anger and jealousy lead him to make terrible decisions, he disconnected himself from everything he loved, he convinced himself he hated everyone, he even left his home. until one day, he accidentally played a part in his mothers death. When she died, he realized how much he still loved her, and he helped his brother avenge her death. afterwards, He realized he'd waisted his life, and he was filled with regret for everything he'd done. after a bit of time, he went back to his home, not expecting anyone to ever love him again, but his family welcomed him back with open arms. but he still felt a bit of emptiness, something was still missing. In a few more years, he met this wonderful young lady. She didn't know it, but she filled his emptiness, she showed him that he could live for something other than himself, she showed him that he could still care, which is something he hadn't been able to do for a long time. After only knowing her for a few months they got married, and he'd never been happier" as he told her this, she was trying to figure out what it had to do with anything, and why he thought of it.
"the woman's name is Eira, and the princes name is loki" he said, looking straight into her eyes, she felt tears filling her eyes but didn't know why.
"That's how we know each other, you're the one who filled my emptiness, you made me feel like I still had some reason. So even though you don't remember who you are, just know that you are the most important thing in my life" he said, putting his hands on her face. "And I'll protect you from anything that comes our way" he lightly kissed her lips, but could feel her tense up a little, so he pulled away. He looked at her and felt his heart torn when she still didn't remember him.
"I wish I knew you" she choked, her tears slipping out.
"You will" he told her. "But we should get some sleep" he told her. She moved a few feet away from him to lay down. He laid down and tried to keep as warm as possible. Right as he was feeling himself falling asleep, he felt her slide right next to him, he opened his eyes and looked at her, a little confused.
"Well you said we're married, so it's okay. and it's pretty cold anyway" she said, he smiled and put his arm around her, maybe it wasn't completely hopeless
