what do you see
except immurin' darkness
when your eyes are closed
and you're about to fall
in the arms of sleep?the wide panorama
of a snow-kissed forest
or the rapid flap
of a passerine's wing?
the rainbow shades
of origami paper boats
or the rusted wood
of a lonely swing?is it the fleeting sight
of the northern lights
or the soft twinkling
of a million fireflies?
the whiff of smoke
from a steam engine
or do your eyes see eyes
corralling pretty lies?what do you see
with lightly closed eyes
in the middle of the night
that's about to set you free?
and of all those things
that you verily see
i'm often left wondering
do you ever see..me?Author's Note
