You lead your brother back down the street. He's slightly come to his senses and is at least listening to you. He's walking next to you, one hand holding yours, the other covering his eye.
It reminds you from when you were young kids, walking home from the shops on a beautiful summer's day when Kaneki fell on the pavement and hurt his head. He cried a lot so, to comfort him, you took his hand and walked back to the house. Luckily, he wasn't bleeding or anything like that so the walk home was relatively quiet.
Of course, now it's much more serious. You and your younger brother, Kaneki, are walking down a street in the middle of the night with him constantly fighting himself. It didn't matter if you held hands, nothing could comfort him, but it did comfort you a bit.
You knew your hands were getting sweatier and sweatier every second as a sense of paranoia began bubbling inside of your gut. Should I ask him if he feels the same? Wow, that sounded like I was crushing on him. Ew.
"Kaneki?" You ask, looking down at the pavement.
Kaneki gives your hand a little squeeze in reply.
You open your mouth to ask a question but shut it, knowing Kaneki is in no state to answer anything yet, "isn't it a beautiful night?" You say, swinging your head back to look at the million stars.
You don't expect a reply. Partly because the night was breath-taking and you could get lost within it. The other part was because it was obvious Kaneki was struggling to conceal low grunts of pain, focusing too much on hiding his eye than looking up and taking in the scenery. If you felt like you were dying, would you stop to look at a daisy?
That's why it was surprising when Kaneki does the same as you are and, for a brief moment, you see his mouth turn from a pained expression to a smile as he takes in every star in the sky. His hand slips from his eye, still red and cracked, but he quickly lifts it back up.
He stops walking, making you jolt back from his iron grip around your hand. It's useless to try to pull him along since his feet seem to be superglued to the sidewalk. You return back to his side and look up at the sky again.
For at least half a minute, that's all you could manage to do - gazing up into the endless sky as if it's about to swallow you whole. When your trance is broken, you look back to your brother in front of you. It's been forever since you did this with your brother, the last time you've stargazed must've been back when you were younger children.
If this is the last time I'm able to spend time with him like this, I want it to be perfect.
