*I heard the creepiest song... So what if Vegeta, like, REALLY snapped...? Find out, I guess. WARNING. This chapter is a little gory and gruesome. Just saying. Shiver*
Goku slammed the door, his breath rasping through his raw throat. He was still in a daze. His stomach heaved slightly, but he couldn't afford to lose all of his composure now. He didn't know what Vegeta had seen in that mirror, but...
~Two Days Before~
The hooded figure backed away from the powerful energy blasts, grinning demonically. "Alright," it rumbled, its foot bumping the covered object notably. "Are you sure you want it? I've heard that it's..." It laughed deeply. "A little dangerous sometimes. With the wrong people, that is."
"What does it do?" Vegeta growled as the creature pulled down the dark purple fabric shielding the object from view. A large mirror, framed with black spiraling spikes, lay under the dark silk.
"It shows the truth about you," the creature purred, admiring itself in the reflection. "Only you'll see yourself, though. Some of you-" It glanced at Goku. "- may find that nothing has changed. But I'd be careful. Like I said, it's a little dangerous if you're playing games..." It drew out the s in a snakelike fashion, and only Vegeta saw it glance his way.
"Let's get out of here." Vegeta turned away, suddenly nervous. "Kakarrot, destroy it and let's go."
"It don't seem bad to me, Geta." Goku gazed openly at his reflection. He wasn't in base form, but at the height of his power. He grinned and looked over his shoulder at Vegeta. "I'm at Four. At least, that's what I'm seeing. C'mon, take a look, Vegeta!"
Red eyes shone from under the hood as a quick grin flashed across the monster's face.
Vegeta's gut screamed in protest, but Goku smiled pleadingly. "Fine," he said, trying to hide his anxiety. What if... What if he saw something that he'd regret? "Just for a moment, then we're going home. We can't leave poor Gohan with the cubs too long." He tried to lighten the mood, but a darkness had seemed to settle over the room.
"Sure!" Goku laughed. He seemed oblivious to the dark.
Vegeta closed his eyes and moved by Goku's side. His hands were sweating like crazy. With a good amount of willpower, he opened his eyes. The mirror was black. Black everywhere. His heartbeat picked up. Only now did Goku begin to pick up on signals of distress. Vegeta distantly heard Goku say his name, but the sound dominant in his mind was the creature's laugh.
I warned you, didn't I? Like what you see? An image was beginning to form in the mirror in the shadows of the black. He could see a warped, grinning version of himself... devouring his mate's still beating heart. Blood was gushing out of Goku's convulsing body, ripped nearly in half lengthwise. It's the truth though, isn't it, Vegeta? You're nothing more than a bloodthirsty beast rampaging on the hunt.
Vegeta fell forward against the mirror, catching himself with his hands against the glass. Now he could clearly hear Goku demanding to know if he was ok. He couldn't reply, and could only watch in horror as his reflection approached and mimicked his position- except for that hideous grin. But wait. Wasn't it... the other way around? It was the reflection looking confused and scared. The reflection faded back into black, and that faded to a normal mirror image. Oh, yes. This was right. White teeth bared, lips pulled back in a seemingly eternal smile...
Goku heard the little giggling sound and knew to run. So, not even repeating his question to Vegeta, he turned and ran as fast as he could. He heard the creature's screaming laughter and realized that they'd been sorely tricked. Behind him, he heard it howl, "It's called the Mirror of Black Souls for a reason, Goku! Hahaha! Have fun with Vegeta!" A different, but much scarier laugh, echoed through the dark behind him.
~End Flashback~
Goku chewed anxiously on his finger as he listened intently. He stopped breathing when he heard the strange, almost tinny voice begin to sing: "Ding dong, I know you can hear me; open up the door. I only wanna play a little. Ding dong, you can't keep me waiting. It's already too late for you to try and run away!" Goku suddenly saw Vegeta through the window, and he froze. "I see you through the window; our eyes are locked together. I can sense your horror- though I'd like to see it closer!"
Goku squeaked in alarm and rushed away. His thoughts were jumbled and scrambled like eggs from the terror that Vegeta was outputting. If it had been anyone but his mate... he might have been able to deal with it. But Vegeta was too much for him to cope with mentally.
Sounding chipper and excited, Vegeta continued: "Ding dong, here I come to find you. Hurry up and run. Let's play a little game and have fun!" He was obviously already in the house, and closer to Goku than he would like. "Ding dong, where is it you've gone to? Do you think you've won? Our game of hide-and-seek has just begun! I hear your footsteps, thumping loudly through the hallway. I can hear your sharp breaths... You're not very good at hiding."
Goku wanted to cry. He almost wanted to just lay down and let Vegeta have him, but he realized that the thought was just an influence from Vegeta's twisted mind. He glanced around frantically after having reached Vegito's room. He dived into the closet and readied himself for one of two inevitabilities: he was going to die, or he'd have to kill Vegeta. The thought of either made him want to be sick. He didn't know if he could take the shot, if the opportunity arose. He'd likely just sit back and let Vegeta do as he pleased...
"Just wait, you can't hide from me," he heard crooned from another nearby room. "Just wait, you can't hide from me. I'm coming. Just wait, you can't hide from me. I'm coming." The voice was just outside the door now. "Just wait, you can't hide from me."
There was a moment of silence, before three slow knocks were placed against the door. There was that awful giggle, then, "Knock, knock; I am at your door now. I am coming in. No need for me to ask permission." The door swung open and Vegeta sauntered in, knowing well that Goku was there. "Knock, knock, I'm inside your room now. Where is it you've hid? Our game of hide-and-seek's about to end! I'm coming closer... looking underneath the bed, but-" He sounded slightly miffed, as if hoping that he'd find his mate under there, shivering and crying. "You're not here. I wonder... could you be inside the closet...?"
Goku closed his eyes, almost accepting defeat. The door creaked open, and he could see the light behind his eyelids. There was a gasp of mock surprise. "Ding dong, I have found you." Goku was grabbed by the throat and heaved up, slammed onto the floor. "Ding dong, you are hiding here- now you're it."
What in the world did he mean by that...?
Laughing and stroking Goku's tear-covered face, Vegeta sang out, "Ding dong, I have found you, dear- now you're it. Ding dong, looks like I have won- now you're it. Ding dong, pay the consequence..."
All nine of the Saiyan cubs were inconsolable. Gohan and Videl were clueless. Something was horribly wrong with their parents, from what Gohan managed to pry from the normally stoic and composed Vegito. Now he lay curled up in a corner in hysterics, and the other cubs were no better off. Something was happening to Goku and Vegeta.
Videl suddenly glanced toward the door. "Did you hear that?" she whispered. All the cubs fell silent, Vegito nearly turning green without warning. "Dad..." he hissed.
"Ding dong, I know you can hear me; open up the door. I only wanna play a little..."
*The End. Bwahaha. Eeeeehhhh, and the nightmares ensue, haha. So what happened, hmm? Did Vegeta kill Goku and move on, or did something even more sinister occur...? I leave it to your imaginations. Lord knows you guys have got 'em! Tiger out.*
