*This is gonna be another sad one... I don't know why I keep writing these. I treat Vegeta so badly... Another songfic without integrated lyrics. I'm crying already lol*

Vegeta inhaled the salty air deeply. What a fitting place to die. The ocean, peaceful yet powerful, roared softly in its everlasting song. Vegeta felt the breeze sift through his hair like a tender hand. It should have been his hand. Kakarrot's hand. But no. While the almighty Prince slowly aged and wore down through many, many decades, Earth's Savior carried on as young and fiery as ever, living out the remaining years of a Kai. Vegeta smiled sadly and breathed deeply. No. He'd never return the long-harbored adoration that still burned like lava in the heart of the Prince. Besides, what future did an immortal have with an old warrior ready for his rest?

He stood, gazing out over the mighty waves. Looking up at the shining sun, he grinned and ascended to the form that once flamed gold, but now managed a yellow-white. With a roar, he broke the barrier to his next transformation. And finally, he shocked into a faint aqua. He felt a twinge in both his ki and his heart at the action. He gasped for a moment, then looked up again. The blinding light seemed to waver. He chuckled. He rocketed up as fast as his aged body allowed. Through clouds, through the open skies. If he was going to die old, he was going to go out with style.

The air around him thinned alarmingly. He eventually held his breath to go for as long as he could. The cold became electrifying as he broke through the atmosphere. He was surprised; he didn't expect to make it as far as he had. The intense pressure- or lack of it, he supposed- forced what little air he had out of his lungs. He snarled and continued to ascend into space. He wouldn't last long in the cold, he'd finally finally rest...

Goku immediately knew what was happening when he felt his senior go to the heights of his power. His first instinct was to Instant Transmit to his location as fast as possible, but the Saiyan in him knew to leave him be. He grinned even as tears blurred his vision. "Damn," he whispered as Vegeta's ki diminished with extreme distance. "What do ya know? I was too late to tell him how I felt. But maybe he knew already."

He stared up at the sky long after the powerful, ancient ki gasped out like a candle. At some point, Dende joined him. He'd grown rather tall in his many years as Guardian, nearly as tall as Goku. The Namek gazed up at the appearing stars as well. "Pity," he whispered, smiling through his tears. "He's going to be sorely missed. By you and I and Piccolo especially. The youngsters didn't know him too well. I've actually hadn't heard him say a word to anyone but you or me for years now." He chuckled. "Our antisocial Prince. Too above the new recruits to heed them. Only you were worthy of his full attention, Goku." He gently dabbed the tears from his eyes. "Oh, goodness. It's crazy how fond you can become of someone, isn't it Goku?"

The question was too specific.

Goku smiled, ready to admit to someone. "Yeah," he whispered. "Yeah, it is. He'll be ba-"

Something glittered in the woods. Both observers noted it immediately. It was a faint red gleam which quickly vanished. Goku smiled. "And... right on que." He headed off into the darkness, leaving Dende to his melancholy thoughts. The shadows danced around him, and in their depths they held another dancing figure. A faint laugh echoed through the woods, drawing him deeper in. "Aw, c'mon, Geta," he laughed. "Don't hide from me."

A purr sounded before him. Out of the dark stepped none other than the Prince of all Saiyans, Vegeta himself. His hair was again raven black and he stood at his full height, grinning wildly. Goku reached out to embrace the Prince, and to his surprise and delight, he responded with his own hug. "Kakarrot," he greeted.

"I didn't expect you to be back so soon," Goku said. "Dende said it was a bad idea, but I need to tell you something. First though, how was your trip?"

"Still getting used to the new body," Vegeta rumbled. "It was actually harder-" The slightly off-toned voice cracked suddenly and shifted to his normal rough tone. "to take over the body than I thought." He cracked his neck and shook out, unfurling his new tail. "Now, Kakarrot, what was so important that you were dying to drag me out of death? This is extremely against the rules, Kakarrot; you could get in trouble for this." He pondered. "Nah, never mind. They all love you too much, and besides, you've saved them more times than they could possibly believe."

Goku gulped his fear down. "Well, I'm going to be blunt. I've waited too long the way it is." He knelt down before the Prince, earning a surprised but pleased smirk. "Vegeta, my Prince..." he brushed his lips across gloved knuckles. "I have no right to ask such a privilege of you, my liege, but I can no longer deny what my heart has been telling me for countless years. Will you be my mate? I live only for you. You have taught me to be a Saiyan. Our descendants have virtually none of our Saiyan blood in their veins. Human blood has weakened them. I know that, together, you and I can bring forth the next generation of true Saiyans, purebloods. I beg of you to grant me my deepest desire, Vegeta. You."

The Prince cocked his head. "Eloquent," he murmured. "I had no idea your tongue was silver under it's shell of lead." He slowly lowered himself to his knees, shocking Goku. "I accept your proposal, my love. You can no longer kneel before me. From this moment on, you and I are equals, Princes of the Saiyans." He leaned forward and pressed his lips to Goku's. It was one of unadulterated love and caring. No lust lay behind it. Goku stood, bringing Vegeta with him. The Prince smiled before turning to leave the woods. "Let's go annouce our engagement to those spunky rascals before one of them tries to jump me. I'm pretty damn hot now!" His laughter echoed loudly as Goku ran after him.
