*Continuation of The Fall*
Goku was positive that demons had lost every memory of coelum after their falls, for Vegeta's eyes were wide as they walked along the faintly shimmering ground. His every footstep left tiny clouds of shadows floating away into the air, and he was now bouncing around just to achieve that phenomenon. Goku noticed other angels watching them with fond smiles. Seeing a demon in coelum was such a pleasant occasion because they always went from grouchy or scared to excitedly exploring, like Vegeta was now.
Vegeta turned to look around a corner and fell back as if he'd been hit. He crawled away quickly, looking absolutely terrified. He growled and hid behind Goku. When the angel glanced around the corner to see what had so frightened his demon, he smiled upon seeing his Father and Lord walking among his people. Then it hit him. Just as a mortal could not stand in the Lord's unshielded presence, neither could a fallen brother. He looked at Vegeta, who had drawn back even further in shame.
That was the first step. A demon's shame for their sins was the beginnings of reformation. Even the briefest exposure to the Lord's grace was enough to initiate the process.
He took Vegeta's hand, thankful that he no longer seemed hurt by his touch. "Let's go somewhere else," he suggested, only for someone to rush in his direction.
The angel- no, a reformed demon!- skidded to a halt. He placed a hand over his heart in greeting, then he said urgently, "Goku, I realize that you've just received our brother, but there's a..." He gulped. "There's a situation. Two of the fallen Princes have escaped from the purgatorium. The Princes of Lust and Greed."
I nodded. We'd need every angel available to wrangle the Princes into submission. I looked to Vegeta to ask if he wanted to come along, but I noted something strange about the way he stood now. His stance had widened, indicating defense, and his eyes now watched them warily. Something in the back of my head told me what I had already guessed.
Gabriel suddenly appeared behind Vegeta. He reacted almost before the messenger angel could dodge. His ragged claws lashed out and he tried to kick at him. Michael grabbed the back of his neck, only to have an elbow slam into his jaw, then a fist buried in his face. He spat out golden blood and again attempted to calm my terrified demon. "Enough! Enough!"
Vegeta was trapped, and he knew it. But still he bared his teeth aggressively and lashed out at anyone who drew near.
Fabulous. My turn again.
I stepped forward, holding my hands out to him in a sign of peace. "Vegeta, easy. Hey," I chuckle. "Might wanna tell me what your sin is, cause I already have two guesses."
He knew he couldn't hurt me without wounding himself, so he let his shoulders slump in defeat. "I am Prince Vegeta, one of the Lords of Lust."
Everyone went really quiet. Never before had someone attempted to reform a Prince, and lust demons were hard to reform anyway... I rubbed the back of my head, my face flushing as most eyes now turned to me. A binding could not be undone once completed. "Ugh," was all I said. "This... This could be trouble. Why didn't you say you were a Prince so you could be paired with a more experienced angel?"
He averted his gaze. "I didn't think it mattered. Besides, don't you have eternity to reform me?" he asked sarcastically.
I blinked, somewhat taken aback by his sudden change in behavior. He had been so sweet. Then a bit of annoyance suddenly pierced my shock. I crossed my arms. "First of all, yeah, I do! And I will! Second of all, don't think you're so big and bad just because you're a Prince!"
The angels around me hissed at me to shut up. Vegeta tilted his head, seeming interested now. I held my ground. I wasn't gonna be bullied by a demon, not even one of the Princes. He rolled one shoulder and mimicked my stance, although he kept his feet somewhat more spread. "You seem pretty confident," he said with a sneer. "But remember this: just as easily as a demon can be reformed, so can an angel be corrupted."
If that wasn't a clear threat, then nothing else could be.
I took a half step back, my heart pounding as the angels around me murmured. This was getting serious. He was basically telling me that this was a competition: he would be reformed, or I would be corrupted. One of us would give in eventually, and we both knew it.
Man... this just got, like, seven times scarier.
