Goku opened his eyes and almost fell off the bed as his phone started ringing. A quick glance at the clock informed him that it was two thirty in the morning. "Pfwa?" He answered the phone, not even bothering to check the caller ID. "Hello...?"

"Kakarrot, just- Don't say anything. Not right now." Vegeta! And- why was he crying? "I just need someone to listen. Ok? I'm really sorry for calling this late, but your voice is the only answer to my problems and I just have so many right now."

"Ok," Goku breathed, laying back.

"I just- I don't even know how to explain what's going on," Vegeta whispered. He sounded really upset. Goku really wanted to know what was wrong. "Ugh, I'm not even going to bother trying. I know you'd get it, but I'm enough of a mess right now the way it is. And I know you could come blazing over here to try to save the day. I just need you to listen though."

"Ok."

"Hush, I wasn't done yet."

Goku had to laugh.

"Shut up." Vegeta sounded like he was smiling a bit. "What are you doing?"

"Laying in bed, trying not to fall asleep, kinda wondering why you decided to randomly call me at two thirty in the morning, and listening to you rant."

"Sounds about right. Listen, I'm sorry if I woke you up."

"It's ok. You needed to talk. I get that."

"I would say I love you but that's really weird." Vegeta laughed softly, obviously not even realizing what he just said.

"Have you been drinking?" Goku murmured, rubbing his hair tiredly.

"Only a little, why?"

"Think about what you just said."

Vegeta was quiet for a few moments, then sighed deeply. "Oh, fuck me." He hung up.

Goku grinned and also ended the call. Twenty seconds later, his phone rang again. He answered. "Hey."

"Yeah, I apologize about that. I may be slightly more drunk than I thought." Vegeta laughed nervously. "That was really weird."

"It's ok," Goku said. He couldn't stop smiling. Vegeta saying "I love you" was the most adorable thing he'd ever heard. "If it's any consolation, I've been there. I mean, you know I don't drink but I've been so deliriously tired that I do dumb stuff like that."

"Kakarrot, you do dumb stuff like that every day." Vegeta went quiet for a moment. "I'm really lonely. And really bored. And just done."

"It's ok," Goku said. "Do you want me to come over?"

"Stop talking like we're a couple," Vegeta chided. "No, I'll be ok, I think. I should probably let you go. Are we still up for that spar tomorrow?"

"Yeah, sure. And if you don't want to hang up, you don't have to. I'm ok. You know you can call me whenever you need to, right?" He could almost hear Vegeta smile. He was likely cuddled under a huge mountain of thick blankets, cold despite the seventy degree weather.  "Are you sure you don't want me to come over?"

"Yeah, I'm ok. Thanks for listening to me ramble about nothing."

"Hey, everything you say is important in some way. It is to me anyway." Goku shifted and sighed happily. "I don't mind hearing you just talk. It's comforting."

"Really? You'd think my voice would scare basically anyone away."

"Yeah, but I don't scare easy. And I've known you for like twenty years. And your morning voice isn't so bad. It's a bit softer, actually," he realized.
