Vegeta felt blood bubbling up into his throat and choked. The sensation was thrilling. Being this close to death... it was addictive. Already he could feel it absorbing back into his body. He groaned, then grinned savagely up at his attacker. "Smooth, Kakarrot. Clever attempt. Try harder next time."

Goku smiled back. "It wouldn't work anyway. You're such a masochist."

"And you're an adventurer." Vegeta stood, wiping excess blood off his throat. "Was that... my carving knife?"

"It was," Goku confirmed.

"Creative. But obviously not good enough," Vegeta snorted, and he took the big knife away from his mate. Goku tried to licked the blood dripping off of it but Vegeta moved it away. "Tch. Animal."

"But your animal," Goku breathed, and kissed him. Suddenly he gagged when the smaller Saiyan's mouth was replaced with a knife plunging down his throat. He staggered back, clawing at his throat.

Vegeta laughed. "Gotcha!"

Goku pulled the knife out of his throat, shocked by Vegeta's audacity. "You- little-" he croaked. Then the wound slowly healed and he shuddered. "Ha ha."

Vegeta cackled wickedly and hugged him. "You deserved it. Throwing a knife at my face. What were you thinking?"

"You liked it," the other rumbled into his hair. "Next time will be even better."

Vegeta trembled in anticipation. These little games had become their whole lives in a matter of days. Ever since they found this new, strange regeneration ability, they kept finding better and more gruesome ways to try to kill the other. They just couldn't stop. Something about the idea of not being able to die made the idea of trying too much fun.

Drug overdose.

Clawing each other's eyes out.

Ripping their skin off.

Drowning.

Evisceration even.

They just couldn't stop.

But one night, as they lay in bed, Vegeta realized a sad truth... He hadn't looked at Goku in weeks without thinking of the next way to try to kill him. Were they even still in love? Was this sick game all that kept them together now? He curled up slightly, trying to hold back tears. What had happened? He sniffled slightly, just trying not to wake Goku, when his hand gently rubbed his waist.

"Vegeta? What's the matter, baby? Are you ok?" Goku turned the other over and wiped away his tears. "Hey, hey. What's wrong?"

Vegeta sniffled again. "You still love me, right?" he whispered, barely in control of his tears now. "I- Do you still love me?"

Goku looked shocked and hurt. "Vegeta? Of course I do! What's the matter? Tell me what's going on." He brought Vegeta close and held him tightly.

Vegeta began to sob. He curled tightly into Goku's chest. "Ever- Ever since w- we started this, I can't... Every time I look at you, I... I want to stop." He looked up at Goku, his eyes pleading. "Kakarrot, please, we need to stop. I can't keep doing this. It's not right."

Goku nodded. "Ok," he whispered, scared by how desperate Vegeta looked. "Ok, we'll never do it again. It's ok, it's ok." He hugged Vegeta tightly. "Don't cry. I'm sorry. We'll stop."

Vegeta continued to cry, but in relief now. Why had this terror suddenly descended on him?

The next day, he found out why.

Goku was out working on repairs and got a bit hurt. And he didn't heal.
