*Part three of Me to You*
Many days were spent in travel. Goku noted that Vegeta was a bit more talkative by night. Slowly the Prince grew more and more visible, and with his visibility he became weaker.
This was worrying. The ship often slowed, even halted occasionally. Goku had to call Vegeta repeatedly before the ship rebooted and went on its way.
"Sorry," Vegeta whispered weakly. "I don't get it... What's happening?"
"We need to get you to Varia. The sooner, the better." Goku rubbed his face and groaned. "This is scary. I don't want you to get hurt again. Are we almost there?" He was met with silence. Suddenly the lights went out and the ship jolted to a halt. "Vegeta!? Vegeta, wake up!" Goku leapt to his feet. "No, no, no. Vegeta! Vegeta, wake up!" He let out a roar of frustration. The silence was like a noose, the fear in his heart gripping him tighter and tighter. He'd never shut down for this long. "Vegeta!" he cried, half sobbing.
And just as quickly as the light had died, power was restored, although the ship did not move. Faintly Goku could make out Vegeta's form on the floor. He was panting harshly, as if from exertion. "Kakarrot...?"
"I'm here," Goku gasped, kneeling beside him. He couldn't yet fully touch Vegeta so he didn't try. "Are you ok? What happened?"
"I... I could... hear you talking to me, but... but then it all went dark..." Vegeta did not rise. "Kakarrot, it... hurts..."
"I'm sorry," Goku whispered. His eyes and throat burned. It was happening again. "Don't try to move the ship. It's taking too much of your energy. Do you know the coordinates?" Vegeta softly whispered a set of numbers. Goku hurried over to the control panel. "Ok, just one more time, then you can rest." He input the information and returned to Vegeta's side. "Just relax. Save your strength."
Vegeta was trembling. Goku could almost feel pain himself. His best friend was suffering in ways he couldn't comprehend and there was nothing he could do but pray.
~Timeskip~
Vegeta was almost totally visible now. He stayed in one of the cabins, too weak to take any part in the operation of the ship. Goku figured out how to properly start it to further help Vegeta conserve what little energy he had left. He sat beside the quivering Prince now, his heart breaking as Vegeta slowly sank into tears. The smaller Saiyan all but writhed in agony. Goku could hardly stand it. He remembered Bulma's words about how horrifying it was to watch and realized how right she was.
That night he was jerked forcefully out of sleep by the sound of vomiting. "No," he gasped and rushed into the bathroom. Vegeta was there, and Goku could see the blood, at least half a quart of it, that his body had expelled. "No, no, no," Goku cried. Vegeta tried to curl up, but began retching heavily. More blood, not quite as much as before. The other was in tears. Was it too late?
Then the AI computer system informed them over the loudspeakers that they were at their destination. Goku didn't even have time to think. He scooped Vegeta up and focused on the one, lone energy that inhabited whatever small planet they were about to land on, Instant Transmitting to that location.
The place most certainly had a voodoo vibe. It was a dark tropical region, pouring down hot rain. There was a large wooden hut almost directly in front of them, and the door opened. "Well, get in here," a strange voice hissed. Goku didn't hesitate and went inside. It was lighter inside than he expected, lit by several ki lanterns. "So Vegeta took our advice and came. We didn't expect that he'd bring company."
