Vegeta could feel the breath being choked out of him. What had happened? Where had the light gone? It was pitch black. There were things in the dark. He could hear screaming.

The sun was just... gone. His eyes finally adjusted, and he immediately wished they hadn't. Whatever held him in the air by the throat was a thousand times more hideous than he feared it would be. The smell of death hit him and he gagged. These things didn't have any visible eyes, wore a dark grey, wrinkled skin, and stood about the height of a doorway. Even then they were hunched over, long arms dragging the ground slightly. Their legs were backwards jointed.

Vegeta struggled and managed to wiggle out of the weak thing's grip. It screamed at him and he ran. Where had everyone gone? He could hear people screaming, but... the only thing to see where these creatures. And where the heck had they come from?

He had to find Goku. Vegeta tried to light ki in his hand, but the darkness was so complete that it shone out less than a foot. With a snarl, he extinguished it. He could see relatively well without it. The screams around him grew louder, then he saw a single person running sightlessly through the dark. One of the creatures stepped before the man.

Its mouth opened like a chasm, so large that the human ran right in without noticing. The screams grew slightly quiter and Vegeta shuddered. That's why he couldn't see anyone...

The air was chilling fast, and the ground under his feet rumbled. He didn't dare call out for Goku, for these things went off sound and smell. He flew up slightly and moved that way. Far quieter than running. Where was he!?

He saw him, huddled down in the dark, almost as blind as the humans. "Kakarrot!" he hissed. Goku looked around frantically. "Get off the ground! There's one coming!" Goku flew frantically towards the sound of his voice.

"How can you see?" Goku whimpered. He reached blindly, then found Vegeta's hand. "Don't leave me."

"I won't," Vegeta replied. He looked around. "Get us out of here; use Instant Transmission."

"Ok," Goku said, and a moment later they blinked away.

But the dark was here too.

Goku wailed softly. Vegeta gripped his hand tighter. He heard a sound behind them, then Goku was snatched out of his grip. It was silent; not even he had detected it. He tried to see what had happened, but it was even darker here than on Earth. He heard a strange whisper to his left and shot up to avoid being taken.

He flew right into something's cold embrace.
