*SOOOONGFIC!!!! Part of Son of the Moon!*
Goku struggled vainly against the bars of the ki-draining cage. He snarled, cursing his little body. A few guards suddenly entered. Goku stood up straight. "The Emperor will be here shortly," one began to say, when a relatively small figure brushed past them. "Oh, scram, you bakas; I've got this."
"Vegeta!" Goku gasped, grabbing the bars. His voice, although younger, still sent shivers through him. "Thank Kami it's you! I've got to get you out of here!"
The younger Vegeta narrowed his eyes. "Leave us," he said to the guards. They bowed and obeyed, leaving the two young Saiyans alone. Vegeta slowly approached. "You... I know you. I've seen you in my dreams; Bardock's son, yes?"
Goku nodded eagerly. "Yes! Vegeta, this is going to sound crazy, but I'm from the future! I was sent here to save you from Frieza!"
"From Frieza?" Vegeta sounded amused, but looked sad. "It's a little late for that, I think."
"I know he's done so much to you," Goku begged, "but it will only get worse. Listen to me! I'm your mate, Vegeta, your mate! That's why I came back! To help you-"
Vegeta laughed bitterly. "It's time you learned a lesson; it's time that you understand: don't ever count on anybody else, in this or any other land." He turned away, clenching his fists. "I once longed for affection, to find a safe place for my kind..." The young Saiyan hung his head. "But those were the childish wishes of someone who was blind."
Vegeta turned swiftly, and the flash of his red cape startled Goku. "Open up your eyes! See the world from where I stand." He sauntered forward. "Me, among the mighty. You, caged at my command." He looked rather proud of himself. "Open up your eyes. Give up your sweet fantasy land." Vegeta crouched down and stroked Goku's cheek. "It's time to grow up and get wise. Come now, little one... Open up your eyes."
Goku couldn't help but feel that something was horribly wrong. Despite his presence here, Vegeta looked perfectly healthy and... he was unbelievably strong. He was even stronger than when they met the first time in his own timeline. "Vegeta-"
Vegeta cut him off, continuing his soliloquy with an almost whimsical attitude. "We all start out the same, with simple, naive trust; shielded from the many ways that life's not fair or just." He turned away. Goku heard a sense of sadness in his voice, one that held loneliness and hurt. "But then there comes a moment, a simple truth that you must face. If you depend on others, you'll never find your place..."
Goku had known the Prince long enough to know that he was easiest to talk to in this mood. "Vegeta," he whispered lovingly. "Listen, please. I can take you away from all this. I can take you to a beautiful place that is filled with good people. You won't have to be afraid or alone anymore. You won't have to suffer Frieza's torment-"
Again, Vegeta chuckled at the mention of the Icejin. It suddenly hit Goku what was wrong. The entire time, he had not seen Frieza, not once. And his ki signature wasn't there. No one had said his name, everything was darker shades, unlike the stark white that Frieza preferred...
Where was Frieza?
"You really don't get it, do you?" Vegeta laughed. He turned to face the younger Saiyan, but Goku suddenly saw the riveting sadism in his eyes, a madness that he couldn't believe he hadn't seen before. "You say we're mates? Let's see." He came forward and grabbed Goku's head with both hands. "And as you take that first step upon a path that's all your own, you see it all so clearly..." he whispered. Images, raw, filled with blood, ran rampant in Goku's mind. Vegeta had slaughtered any and everyone in his path: Frieza, Zarbon, the Ginyu Force, Nappa, his own father- everyone!
"... the best way to survive is all alone!" Vegeta cackled, his eyes glowing red in the dim light. He turned swiftly and fired a ki blast at a switch on the dark wall which made the cage jerk and began to move upwards. The Prince jumped up onto it. "Open up your eyes! See the world from where I stand! Me, among the mighty- you, caged at my command!" He swung, making the entire cage rock wildly. He tossed his head back as the grating above opened slowly with a screech. "Open up your eyes! And behold the faded light!" Vegeta snagged Goku's gi and pulled him close, murmuring, "It's time to grow up and get wise. Come now, little one... open up your eyes..."
Vegeta let go of the cage and Goku. He free-fell backwards, flipping to land perfectly on his feet far below. Goku looked up, briefly blinded by the grey sun. He heard maniacal laughter and looked down again. Vegeta watched after him. The last thing he heard before the doors slid shut was a mad laugh and a final cry of, "Open up your eyes!"
