Goku poked his head through Bulma's front door. The house was oddly quiet; not even the faint rumbles of Vegeta training in the gravity chamber could be heard. "Hello!" he called out. "Bulma? Vegeta? Trunks?"

Bulma came trotting down the stairs at the sound of his voice. "Oh, thank God! It's you!" She grabbed his hand. "I don't have time to explain, but Vegeta is freaking out, and you're the only one who can calm him down!" She dragged him up the stairs and into Vegeta's room.

The Saiyan Prince was huddled down into a little space between the bed and the bedside dresser, sobbing. He let out a wail of terror when they entered, and he made an almost successful attempt at scrambling under the bed.

Goku hopped forward and caught him by the waist. "Vegeta, what's a matter!?"

"Goku, be gentle, please!" Bulma cried. "He doesn't know what's going on!"

Vegeta kicked Goku savagely in the hip, although the blow was stoically ignored. Next, he bit Goku, and that made him yelp and drop him. "Vegeta!"

Bulma caught the panicking Saiyan by the face very gently. "Hey, hey, it's me, baby. It was just a dream, right? That's it, breathe."

Vegeta tried to look sideways at Goku, who stood in growing confusion. Something about Vegeta seemed off. Bulma directed Vegeta's gaze back to her. "It's ok. It's just Goku."

"Kaka?" Vegeta replied in a chirp, startling Goku. And since when did Vegeta call him Kaka?

"Yep! Yep, it's Kaka." She glanced up at Goku, her eyes begging him not to ask questions yet. "Are you ok now? If you stay calm and be good, I'll let you say hi to Kaka."

Vegeta nodded, then looked over his shoulder at the bigger Saiyan. "Kaka?"

"Bulma, what the heck is going on?" Goku whispered.

"Vegeta, baby, why don't you go downstairs? Kaka and I will be down in just a sec. I'll get you something to eat, ok?" She kissed his nose, an action that Goku knew Vegeta would normally never let her do, and shooed him out. She turned to Goku nervously.

"Start talking."

"It's not his fault, he can't help it," she started. "You know what PTSD is, right? When something happens in someone's past and it affects them the rest of their life?" When Goku nodded, she went on. "Vegeta has it. Multiple forms of it, I imagine. Sometimes he... when he gets scared or if he gets really stressed out, his mind kind of shuts down partway; he starts acting like a child. His brain fools him into thinking he's young again, and it prevents him from what his mind recognizes as a threat of further trauma." She paused, realizing that she likely lost Goku long ago.

But he nodded. "Oh, I get it. So he thinks he's a cub again. Ok. Will he go back to normal soon?"

"After he calms down," she replied. "It could take an hour or two."

Goku looked sideways at Bulma. He tilted his head. "Is that why you sometimes answer his phone and tell me he's not feeling up to a spar?"

Bulma put her hands on her hips with a grin. "Either you're some kind of Goku imposter or you've spent too much time with Vegeta. You're getting sharp, Goku! Yes, that's why." She began to leave. "Now we gotta see what Vegeta's up to!"

They went downstairs and saw Vegeta prowling around the kitchen. He stopped when he saw them and bounded over to wrap his arms around Bulma; he peered shyly over her shoulder at Goku. Goku cooed at him. "Aww, he's so cute, Bulma."

"He is, isn't he?" She pet his hair. "Vegeta, you stay right here with Kaka, ok? I'll get lunch and we can eat."

Vegeta silently nuzzled her and again looked anxiously at the other Saiyan.
