The next evening (Christmas Eve), me and Sal were in the living room with my cousins, playing a board game. They were both aged 5, so me and Sal let them win. We had both of our families staying over my house. I had my auntie and uncle, cousins and nan, and sal had his aunties and uncles and grandparents and sisters.
"Maybe Sal and Emily could help you get everything ready for Santa" my mum asked me and Sal.
"Sure" me and Sal answered in unison. We got up and walked in the kitchen with my cousins following suit.I grabbed the Santa mug and let my cousins put some milk in, allowing a lot to spill. Then we grabbed the cookie in as they both took one each and threw it on the mug. They then ran back in the living room with the rest of our family. Me and Sal stayed in the kitchen. We sat on the stools, eating the majority of the biscuits left.
"This is nice" Sal said.
"What is?" I asked.
"Our families spending Christmas together. Us.. spending Christmas together" he told me with a smile.
"I agree" i replied with a warm smile.
"About yesterday-" Sa said, referring to us nearly kissing. He was about to ask me something until my dad walked in.
"You should join us, we are sorting sleeping arrangements". My dad informed us. We both nodded then i turned back to Sal.
"What was you saying?" I asked him.
"N-Nothing, dont worry" Sal said.We joined the rest of our families in the living room as they were sorting out bedtime arrangements. My room was already being used.
"Who do we have left?" My mum asked scanning the room. "Ah.. Emily and Sal" she said. "You can sleep in the basement. But it will only be the two of you" she told us.
"Sleepover" Sal quietly whispered in my ear, causing me to laugh.
"Of, we an have a movie marathon" i suggested to him.
"We can watch Christmas films" Sal said.Around 1 am, me and Sal set up the DVD player in the basements and set up a few blankets on the sofa.
"Should we watch our annual Christmas film?" Sal asked.
"The grinch" i replied with a smile. He nodded and placed the DVD in the player. Every year at Christmas time, me and Sal would always watch the grinch. We counted it as our film.We sat on the basement couch, watching the film. I was really cold so Sal kindly gave me his hoodie and we cuddled up to each other. I rested my head on his chest, with my arms wrapped around him, and he laid his head on my head.
The next morning, Sals mum and my mum came down the stairs in the basement and saw us still asleep; still cuddled up on the sofa.
"Aww, they're so cute" my mum said.
"Still surprises me how they have never dated!" Sals mum replied. They both smiled and nodded and woke us up. Me and Sal slowly sat up, and grinned at eachother.
"Merry Christmas" we said at the same time. Sal grabbed my hand as we ran up to the living room and sat by each other ready to open our gifts. We all went one by one opening our gifts.
"I guess thats it!" My mum announced.
"Wait-" me and Sal called out.
"Okay" my mum said.
me and Sal both pulled out gifts. His for me and mine for him. We exchanged our gifts and opened them one by one. Sal went first to open. He slowly peeled off the wrapping paper and bow and revealed a black leather box. He slowly opened it, to reveal a watch. But not any watch- a watch he has been eyeing up for ages.
"This is gorgeous" Sal said, admiring every inch of the watch.
"Look on the back" I said, siting closer to him, placing my hands on his shoulder. He smiled at me, then turned the watch over to reveal and engraved message reading to my best friend, Sal- from Emily xx
"This is the best gift ever" sal sad to me with a smile. He placed the watch on his wrist then said "your turn".
I sat back down and slowly unwrapped my gift. He had given me two. The first was the most gorgeous, gold necklace i seen one day walking past a jewellery shop near our college. And the other gift was my favourite childhood book, first edition, signed by the author. I felt a tear in my eye.
"Thank you so much" i said to him.
"Here, let me put your necklace on you" Sal offered. I turned around, as he brushed the hair away from my neck and placed the cold, gold chain around my neck. I turned back around, and we both threw our arms around eachother for a hug. We both lingered onto the hug, no sign of either of us letting go. I let my head rest softly on his neck, as he buried his head into my shoulders. We totally forgot our families surrounding us.And from that day everyone knew we fancied each other....except for us!
