I walked up the cream carpet stairs to the office reading 'Brooklyn Publishers'. I took a deep breath and swung the door open. I was greeted by the receptionist who led me to the managers, Caroline, office.
"Hello, you must be Emily Vulcano" She said with a warm smile, shaking my hand.
"That's me. You must be Caroline?" I clarified.
"Yep! Now.. your here for a trial right?" She asked. I nodded. "Jim has been working endlessly to get you to work here, even if it is just a trial" Caroline laughed.
"Really? Why?" I asked.
"He saw great potential in you! Trust me- Jim is the guy you should talk to if you need anything! He's my most trustworthy employee" She smiled.
"Aww that's nice" I replied with a smile.
"I'll be putting you two together to work together. You seem liked you'd both get along" she smiled.
"I'm really looking forward to be trying out this line of work" I replied.
"Then let's get started!" She smiled.

She led me through the office, ending up to two little desks, one with Jim sat behind. He stood up and greeted me with a wide smile.
"It's great to see you again" he smiled.
"It's lovely to see you too" I replied.
"Now I'll leave Jim to show you the ropes" Caroline said.

Throughout the morning Jim shown me how everything worked and set me up with a few easy tasks, to ease me in. I looked around and noticed everyone working so hard.
"A lot of hard work happens here" I whispered to Jim, as silence filled the room. He laughed to himself as I gave him a confused look.
"Not usually... Caroline is leaving this week and everyone is competing for her job" Jim informed me. I nodded, now understanding why.

Jim sat in the desk opposite me and I noticed quite a lot he'd just be looking at me. Whenever I looked up, he would just smile and continue with his work. But as soon as lunch time rolled around I made my way into the break room. I decided to ring Sal.
"Hey babe" he answered. "How's it going?" He asked.
"Really good. Luckily I'm working with Jim, and he is just showing me around. But I'm missing you and the kids too much!" I whined.
"Only a week then you can see us all again. Scarlett is definitely missing you and Connor is non stop crying, so your not missing much" Sal told me.
"Are you managing?" I asked.
"Of course. I love these kids more than anything" Sal told me, happiness evident in his voice.
"Rude" I joked.
"And of course I love you too" he added.
"Emily, can you help me file some paperwork?" Jim asked.
"So sorry Sal, I gotta go" I said, as I followed Jim.
"Keep working hard!" Sal told me as he hung up the phone.

Meanwhile, at home, Sal was sat in the living room with Murr, Connor and Scarlett. Q, Joe and Murr offered to support Sal this week. There was no denying... long distance is going to be hard...
