A few weeks later, me and my mum were sat in the waiting room of the hospital. Today was the day of my first scan. My dad was at home looking after Scarlett. I couldn't stop shaking my right leg, as I felt quite anxious. It was horrible without Sal; this should be something we do together. My mum could tell that's the reason I felt out of sorts, but she soon calmed me down.
"Mrs Vulcano?" The Doctor called, searching for me through the swarms of people.
I stood up and walked into the hospital room. I took a seat on the bed, as the doctor rubbed the gel onto my stomach, and looked into the monitor. I turned to face the monitor, trying to see where my baby is. I turned to the doctor, who finally smiled as the heart beat began playing.
"And there's your baby" she said, pointing at the monitor.
Happy tears filled my eyes as I turned to my mum who had a wide smile.
"Would you like to know the gender?" The doctor offered.
"No no... it will be a surprise" I said with a smile.
"Good choice. I'll print out your scan" she said, as she walked away.On the way home I picked Scarlett up, and thanked my parents for all their help today. I carried Scarlett in my arms as I sat on the sofa, staring at the scan. I was soon interrupted by the phone ringing. I slowly set Scarlett down in her crib and quickly grabbed the phone.
"Emily Vulcano?" A new voice asked.
"Yes?" I asked cautiously.
"We have some good news!" They began...
