'I had no idea why I was even debating wether to take the job or not. It would mean moving away... with or without my family. It was too much to ask Sal for. But.. this has been my dream' I thought, as I stared deeply into Jim's eyes.
"Why don't you go home for the rest of the week, then call me on Monday with your final answer" he advised me with a smile.
"Thank you" I said as I gathered my things.I hurried back to the hotel and grabbed my things then I ran outside and called for a cab to take me home. I really wanted to take the job- but deep down I knew there was no way I could. When I finally got home I ran in, to be greeted by Sal's parents, Sal and the kids.
"Your home early" Sal's mom said with a warm smile.
"Oh hi" I said, surprised they were there.
"Yeah you are. Is everything okay?" Sal asked me, concern evident in his voice.
"Yeah, Jim said I was practically done so I could come home for good" I lied.
"That's great! So how did you find it??" He asked me.
"It was good" I said.
"Is this the sort of career you want?" Sal asked. All my hopes raised, hoping I could tell Sal about my job offer and he would agree.
"Yep!! This is all I've ever wanted to do!" I said enthusiastically.
"Then we will find you a job in Staten Island" Sal said to me with a smile.
"Sure" I weakly said, my hopes fading.I sat on the sofa, listening to him and his parents talking, just thinking about this wasted opportunity. I had my phone in my lap, when I saw a text from Jim.
Jim: have you thought about the job? 😁
Me: yep... I'll have to think about it over the weekend xx****
That night I sat in bed on the lap top looking through houses for sale in Brooklyn, near the office. I was just curious to see if there were any available. I saw a three bedroom house, fairly cheap in the city.
Sal walked into the bedroom and rolled into bed beside me, so I shut the lid on the laptop. He cuddled up to me and placed a kiss on my forehead.
"Tomorrow will be exciting" Sal said excitedly. I had to think about what he was referring to when it clicked to me... Scarlett's first day at nursery.
"Me too. We can both take her" I said with a smile.
"Our little family is growing up too fast" Sal said.
'Our little family is growing up too fast' I repeated in my head. I knew I couldn't take my job offer. It would mean I would miss time with my family, especially if they were late hours. The next morning, I got Scarlett ready, and Connor in his pram as we all went to walk Scarlett to school. She was gripping onto Sal's hand, as we walked down the path, trees swaying around us; making our way to school. We finally reached the nursery. I placed a kiss on Scarlett's forehead and hugged her tightly. Sal then hugged her, but wouldn't let go.
"Sal... she has to go now" I said with a laugh. We watched her walk into the nursery, and waved her off.As soon as we made it home, I was occupied by having to settle Connor down to sleep. Meanwhile, Sal was upstairs. He was searching the bedroom for the laptop. He lifted the lid to see 'houses for sale in Brooklyn'...
