Right In Front Of Me...

Chapter 87

"What are you doing here??" Sal asked me.
"I was thinking about you.. and I just needed to be here with you" I said with a smile. "Well only for a night. I do have work in the morning" I explained with a laugh. Sal held my hand and led me into the house, where I was greeted by both Connor and Scarlett.
"My angle!" I said as I hugged Scarlett. "My cute little prince" imsaid as I held Connor in my arms.
"We have all been missing you" Sal told me. " especially me!" Sal chuckled.
"I've missed you all too" I said with a smile.

I walked in the kitchen to make myself a cup of tea.
"How's the job going? Well.. trial" Sal corrected himself.
"Good. I got a contract with an author today" I said.
"Congratulations!! How's Jim?" Sal asked.
"He's good. He's helpful by showing me around too" I told Sal.
"I'm glad your enjoying it!" Sal told me.

The next morning I woke up at 5am. I gently stroked Sal's hair to wake him up.
"I have to go" I whispered.
"Only 2 more days, then your home for good" he said with a smile. I kissed his forehead then quickly said goodbye to Connor and Scarlett, then grabbed a cab to work.

I arrived at 7am, one of the earliest workers there. I waked in, with only Jima me Caroline in. I saw them in her office talking, so I quietly made my way to my desk. The office door soon swung open, to reveal a happy Jim.
"What's got you in a chirpy mood?" I asked with a curious smile.
"Nothing" he said with a smirk.

Around 9am, when the rest of the workers arrived, Caroline called a meeting in the conference room. All the workers gathered to hear her news.
"So as you all know, tomorrow is my last day!" She begun. "And I have had the difficult task of choosing a new manager" she said, grabbing everyone's attention. "I have chosen Jim to be the manager of the Brooklyn branch!" She revealed. I gave Jim a quick hug as he joined her at the front.
"Thanks so much Caroline" Jim said. "Caroline told me this morning and she had asked me to chose a co-manager to work alongside. And with a lot of thought I have chosen Emily" he smiled at me.
"The temp?" Someone called out.
"Look.. I see potential in her. She has made more contracts in three days than most of you have made in three years! She knows what she's doing, and I'd love for her to be co manager of this branch, with me" Jim explained, not breaking eye contact with me. I stood up, and slowly walked to the front. I pulled Jim outside of the conference room, closing the door so no one could hear.
"What are you doing?!" I asked him.
"I mean it Emily. You have potential!!" Jim said. "How do you feel about it??" Jim asked, excitement evident in his voice.
"Maybe.." I said.
"Obviously it means you'd have to live here in Brooklyn permanently" he revealed.
