Chapter 23

***Edward's POV***

Germany.

"Hello, Dad."

"Edward, I badly need your help."

"Regarding what, Dad?"

"Our branch in the Philippines is in trouble right now. Your Uncle Mario can no longer handle it. We need to find someone to do it for him. I can't do it myself, son... you know that.. I'm no longer that strong to travel from here going there and vice versa."

"We can talk about this, later Dad. I need to consult May as well..."

"Yeah I know. And I heard May is getting better now?"

"Yes Dad. Hopefully she'll recover fast... And that's one thing... She wanted to go home as well to be with our son."

"Well... Maybe this is the best time for you to go there as well... You previously handled and started that branch, right? Maybe you can---"

"I'll think about it, Dad. I have two branches here in Germany that I need to take care of... and I have no one to endorse it to...."

"Okay, son... Think about it please... It's not a good idea if we shut it down without making any actions..."

"I understand, Dad... Yeah... I'll let you know.."

"Okay, son. If you happen to talk to DJ, tell him to call us. We miss him so much."

"Yeah, Dad. I will. Regards to Mom."

"Bye, son."

"Bye, Dad."

This is the problem of being an only son... No one can help me manage our family businesses. My sister Laura has her own business in the US as well.... and Dad is getting older...

The sad thing is I have my son, my only son... my only hope... to inherit and take care of the businesses in the future supposed to be... but he's showing no interest on it at all...

I was getting my things and about to leave the office when...

"Love! Yuhoooo! Surprise!!!" she's smiling from ear to ear. She's almost running!

How I waited for this moment to come again.

"Love? May! Oh my God! You can now really walk normally!"

I'm in tears.

"I could even jog now, love!" she giggled.

"Thanks, God!" I hugged and kissed her.

"Hey, don't cry! We're suppose to celebrate, right? Date tayo!" she sounded so happy.

"You're asking me?"

"Pero syempre, ikaw ang magbabayad!"

"Mrs Barber, ikaw po kaya ang nag-aya."

"Sige, 'wag na nga lang." and I could see her signature pout.

"Hmmnnn. Joke lang po! I can date you anywhere you want, love. After all these years... you deserve to be happy... I want you to feel happy, love.... as I am sooooo much!" I gave her a peck on the lips.

My wife is still very beautiful. Nothing has changed. She's even more blooming right now... Maybe because her suffering has ended.

We're still sweet with each other. Though our intimacy in bed was affected because of her situation but never our love for one another... That's what I adore her the most...

We could be against a strongest storm but she'll remain fighting with me to protect our family..

"Really? Gusto mo akong maging masaya?"

"Of course!"

"Anything? You can give me anything? Hmmmnnn!"

"Yeah. Anything."

"We'll visit DJ in the Philippines, then. ASAP!"

"That's it?"

"Anong that's it? Really? Sasama ka na sa akin? Nang ganoon kabilis?"

"Of course, love! Mamaya niyan maligawan ka na naman nung mga kumag na iyon... "

"Hoy, tanda na natin sa ganyan, love.. Tsaka move on din pag may time ha?"

"Kalabaw nga lang ang tumatanda, love... Not us... Not me." I winked at her.

"At ano ang ibig mong sabihin, Mister?"

"Malay natin... Pwede pa tayong maghabol ng baby sister and brother ni DJ... Gusto mo bang made in Germany o made in the Philippines?"

I saw her blushed.

"Love naman, eh."

"I'm serious Mary Dale Barber.... We still can do it, can't we?"

"Ewan ko saiyo. Halika na nga. Gutom lang iyan."

"May gusto akong kainin, love."

And her eyes grew bigger in surprise.

"Heh!"

"I didn't mean anything, love... Hahaha. Napaka-advance mo mag-isip!"

And I received a hurting pinch in my belly.

"Ouch! You're back, love. You're back on hurting me again..."

"Sus, drama. Lika na."

I feel so happy... seems our old selves were renewed... those happy days are coming back!

***May's POV***

Di ko napigilang sorpresahin ang asawa ko nang sa wakas ay makalakad ako nang hindi na nasasaktan at wala ng suporta.

I feel so happy and alive.

Dumaan muna ako ng simbahan para magpasalamat sa Panginoon sa ibinigay niyang bagong pag-asa sa akin, bago ako dumiretso sa opisina ng aking asawa.

Nakita ko ang sobrang katuwaan ng asawa ko. Sa lahat, siya ang pinaka-nagsakripisyo para maibalik ko ang sarili ko sa dati.

He didn't fail to cheer me up noong mga panahong lubog na lubog ako sa kalungkutan. His undying love and support were my biggest source of strength to move forward.

I believe now is the time to pay him back. I'll make his everyday happy again...

May mga panahon kasi na kahit hindi niya sabihin ay alam kong pinanghihinaan na siya ng loob pero itinatago niya pa rin sa akin. He would drink at night alone kapag tulog na ako. Hindi ko siya masisisi... I couldn't help him... That's the sad thing. Pero laking pasasalamat ko dahil hindi talaga siya sumuko sa akin... sa amin.... More so hindi siya naghanap ng ibang babae.

It came to a point na itinutulak ko na siyang mambabae just to satisfy his needs that I couldn't provide. But he declined and remained loyal to me. He said he rather be celibate for the rest of his life basta kasama niya lang kami ng anak ko.

Edward has been a great husband to me and a father to DJ. Madami siyang pinagdadaanan bukod sa sandamakmak na problema sa negosyo yet kapakanan pa rin namin ni DJ ang iniisip niya. He might have lacked time and attention for our son yet I know how much he loves him. Hindi ko rin siya masisisi sa naramdaman niyang galit at kalungkutan sa nangyari noon. Sinisi niya rin ang sarili noon dahil wala daw siyang nagawa para maiwasan ang nangyari. Yun nga lang, nagkaroon sila ng gap ni DJ habang lumalaki ito.

Sana maibalik ko ang dati... ang dating saya ng pamilya.
