Luke's P.O.V-

"Luke! Get up, you have school!" I hear my mum yelling and drag myself out of bed.

I take a quick shower, washing away all my sleep. I wash my hair as it looked really bad and get out.

I dry my hair and go over to my cupboard where I find some clothes. I put on my blue skinny jeans and I was ready for school.

I run downstairs and find my mum had made me breakfast. I eat it all within a matter of seconds before getting into her car.

"School time, you ready?"

"I'm too tired. Don't take me"

"Come on, you think I like teaching those idiots you call your friends?"

"Calum and Michael are good at math"

"A little. The only amazing ones in your class is Maddie but she's so quiet"

"Yeah, she's like that" I think about Maddie, the girl who hasn't said a single word for 17 years of her life.

"I'm not favouring you but you're great at maths" I wink at her making her smile. I play my blink 182 CD and we sing along until we get to school.

I get out of my mum's car and walk over to Calum. I give him a giant hug.

"Hemmings, get off me, this is weird"

"Sorry Cal" I pull off and smile. I see Michael approaching and I run over giving him a hug.

"Why?"

"Hugs are fun"

"They are also weird in public" He says pushing me off while laughing.

"You two aren't even fun" I say and they look at me, studying my face.

"Why are you so huggy all of a sudden?"

"Well, I have really good news. I think I found us a drummer"

"WHAT?" Calum says, his eyes opening with shock.

"You found us a drummer?" Michael asks.

"Well, he text me on Facebook saying he wanted to become part of the band, he's Australian as well. I said he could come to mine some time this week after school"

"Oh my god, this is huge! We might complete our band" Calum smiles.

"So who wants a hug now?" I ask while smiling and we have a group hug. We all end up laughing because our dream was possibly happening, it probably wouldn't happen but we were nearly a step closer.

The bell rings for the first class and luckily, it's math. We walk to math where everyone was already waiting outside. I see Maddie and I decide to try and talk to her.

"Hi Maddie" I say and she continues to look down to the ground.

"Luke, leave her, she doesn't want to talk to you" Michael says pulling me away and I bite my lip. She was so intriguing, why didn't she speak?

My mum opens the class door and we all pile in. She stops us from sitting down and we stand against the wall.

"Seating plan! Check the board for your name" I look for my seat and I see that my new seat was by Michael and Maddie. We sat in tables of three so I sat in the middle of them both.

I sat down, I quite liked my new seat. I turned to face Michael who winks at me.

"Your new maths seat is great. You have me on one side and someone who doesn't speak on the other" He smiles.

"Yeah, it's great" I turn to face Maddie who was looking out the window.

"Right! Do the work that's on the board. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask" My mum says while looking at her computer. Everyone thought she was just a laid back teacher but she actually did this so she could buy shoes online.

"So Michael, what did you get for this one?"

"34. You?"

"Same" Maths was quite easy so I enjoyed it. I saw my mum wave me to come over.

"Yes mum?"

"What do you think of these?" She whispers. I look at a pair of black high heels that look like an 18 year old would wear.

"Mum, they are what girls my age wear, don't even think about it"

"Fine. I hope you don't mind your seat, I sat you by Maddie because I know you won't pick on her"

"Don't worry, I quite like my seat" I smile.

"Good, now get back to work' She smirks.

"You as well" I say walking back to my chair. I sit down and Michael giggles.

"Your mum cracks me up" He smirks and she catches his eye. He stops laughing and continues his work.

I look at Maddie who has finished all the questions and now had her drawing book out. I watch her hand slowly draw line by line. She finishes and on her page is a girl, standing in a flower field.

"That's really good" I say and she closes the book, sliding it into her bag.

The bell rings for next lesson and she quickly leaves the class. Why was she like this? Why didn't she speak?
