Mum, we're just friends

Maddie's P.O.V-

I walk downstairs and grab a drink when my mum walks in. She looked a bit happier than usual today which meant something bad was going to happen to me.

"Hi mum"

"Hi. So today, I want to meet Luke"

"Okay... What brought this on?"

"Well I want to meet your friends. If you even have any" She laughed and walked off. I knew she'd have to say something like that.

I go up to my room and ring Luke to tell him that my mum wanted to meet him. As normal, he answers straight away.

"Mads, I was just thinking of you"

"Weird, so was I"

"Thinking about yourself?"

"Thinking about you silly" I giggle and so does he.

"So, how are you?"

"I'm good but I didn't just ring you for normal chit chat"

"Oh, what's up?"

"Basically, my mum wants to meet you"

"She does?"

"Yeah... Don't get so excited, she's not a nice person"

"Maddie, I'm sure she's lovely" I sigh. He really wasn't going to like my mum, I already knew. I end the call and change into a pair of skinny black jeans and a plain black shirt. My parents hated my style so they would hate Luke's. I go down to the living room where I see my mum and she glares.

"Black? Really?"

"It makes me look a little better"

"Honey, nothing does that" I hold back the tears.

"I think-" My dad begins but my mum cuts in.

"She should change. Go up" I sigh and go upstairs. I change into a baggy floral shirt with a pair of shorts. She had also given me some pink vans. Yes, my mum wanted a tumblr child. I go back to my parents and she smiles.

"That's more like it" She walks over and pats my shoulder. I hear the door bell so I open the door revealing Luke who looks me up and down with a frown on his face.

"Madi...is dressed like a popular?" He says fake smiling.

"My mum made me wear this" I whispers and he nods.

"Anything else I should know?"

"You're just a friend"

"What?" I knew he was going to hate that I had to lie about our relationship. I take him over to my parents and they stand up. I could see Luke was upset that I had told my parents he was only a friend but that was because I didn't want my mum to stop me seeing him.

"Hello, I'm Maddie's mum, unfortunately" She glares at me and Luke frowns, showing he was confused by that comment. I bite my lip and we all sit on the sofa together.

"So Luke, you're my daughter's only friend?" I could tell my dad was so drunk he didn't know what he was saying, making Luke search for words.

"Well no, she hangs out with my friends as well"

"All boys I'm guessing" My mum laughs. I sink a little further down on the sofa and Luke takes my hand.

"She's a really sweet girl"

"Pushover more like. I know boys, they like one thing. Why do you think Maddie's right there?" She laughs. I see Luke bit his lip in anger and I sigh. She always said stuff like that and it really hurt. After half an hour of talking and making me feel stupid, I take Luke to my room.

"I told you they suck" I sigh and sit on my bed.

"Why do they say things like that to you?"

"Because it's true Luke" He sits beside me as I begin to cry.

"Maddie, you are not a worthless girl and you're not like what your mum says. You're a kind, beautiful girl who isn't a disgrace to anything. I really like you and none of what they said was true" I wipe my eyes and give Luke a hug.

"You mean so much to me Luke, you're the only person who cares about me" I kiss his lips and he smiles. Soon enough, I wrap my legs around his waist as he pulls me into a kiss.

"Luke, do you wanna leave-" I pull off Luke as my mum walks in.

"Mum-"

"MADELINE GET DOWN STAIRS RIGHT NOW YOU USELESS GIRL. YOU TOLD ME HE WAS A FRIEND AND NOW I SEE YOU KISSING! GET OUT OF MY SIGHT. YOU MAKE ME SICK, GO!"

"Don't talk to Maddie like that! She's an amazing girl"

"You want her for one thing. Why else would you want that?" She says while glaring at me. My tears build up until a few fall, it's true, why did Luke want me? She takes my shirt in he grasp and she pushes me down the stairs and out the house.

"Mum, please-"

"Don't ever come back. I don't want to ever see you again" It hurt to hear her say that even if she did hate me. She was my mother, my parent who was meant to care about me and I was now alone.

"Can I at least grab my stuff?"

"I'm going out, take all of it" I wipe my eyes as she walks off with my dad. I go back upstairs where Luke is.

"Maddie, I'm so-"

"Don't. It's not your fault" I grab my suitcases and begin to pack my stuff.

"What are you doing?"

"My mum, she, uh, kicked me out"

"What? Mads..."

"It's okay Luke, I'll be better off without them" I say and wipe my eyes which hadn't stopped crying since I found out. I collapse on the bed and Luke cuddles into me, he always knew how to make me feel better.

"Hey mads, I promise I'll look after you better than your parents did"

"Thank you Luke, it means so much to know you're staying with me, even with parents like that"

"Is this why you never let you walk me home, never let me come over when they were here or even know where I live?"

"I didn't want you to get caught up in all of this" I say biting my lip.

"Mads, it's okay now. I'm here"

"Thank you" I kiss his cheek.

"Come on, I'll help you pack and then we'll go to your new house"

"Where's that?"

"The Hemmings household"

"No, I'm not staying there. I don't want to intrude"

"You're my girlfri-" He stops as I raise my eyebrows.

"You haven't asked me yet..." I smirk m, my tears slowly stopping.

"Will you, Madeline, be my girlfriend?" As he asked it, I finally stop crying.

"No" I joke and turn away.

"What?"

"I'm kidding you idiot! Of course I'll be your girlfriend" I kiss his cheek and begin to pack again.

"It's official. You have to stay with me now because you're my girlfriend"

"That sounds good"

"What?" He asks.

"I'm Luke Hemmings' girlfriend" I chant over and over while packing. Somehow, today didn't feel real. I got kicked out of my family home and now I was Luke Hemmings' girlfriend. Maybe things would get better.
