"happy birthday to you" we sing to my little cousin

my aunt thought it was a good idea to throw delilah a birthday dinner at the piers kid restaurant

little kids are running around everywhere, some screaming, crying, and jumping up and down

i leave the restaurant to get some fresh air, i don't know how some people can handle kids

i wonder if joey can take care of a kid, i laugh at the thought of him trying to take care of his soon to be born baby

i awe at the thought and look at the ice cream shop that was open, some ice cream sounds really good

i walk over to it and get myself some vanilla because i'm feeling plain today

"kelsey"

i turn around and see joey with an ice cream cone in his hand, chocolate

"joey!" i hug him and he smiles

"what are you doing here? it's 7pm" i pay for my ice cream

"i just wanted to go out for a walk, plus i thought we're hanging after" he tells me

"so you're following me?" i joke

he laughs, "no i just wanted to get some ice cream and stop by your place but since you're here, i don't have to anymore"

i smile at him, "is emily with you?"

"she wanted to stay home" he opens the door for me and i thank him, "wanna walk on the beach?"

"that sounds great" i smile

"all you got is vanilla?" he ask

"yea, what's wrong with it?" i raise my brow at him

"vanilla isn't that... good" he laughs and i slap his arm, "sorry" he puts his hands up in defense and we both start laughing

"i'm feeling plain today"

"who even eats vanilla ice cream alone... not even any toppings" joey makes fun of me and i roll my eyes at him

"you got plain chocolate" i point out

"that's different, chocolate has flavor" he defends his ice cream

"i'm going to smash my ice cream in your face"

"shit sorry, i really don't want a vanilla face" he chuckles

i take a step towards him and he backs away, "i'm sorry!" he laughs again

"don't say anything about my vanilla ice cream" i take a lick of it and his eyes stay on me

we continue walking, i look down and make sure i don't get sand in my shoes because they seriously become a pain having to take them out

"so how have you been?" he ask

"i've been good, i think. just trying to make the best of life while i still have it, you?"

"that's good, i've been busy kinda excited that i'm getting married in a week" he smiles

"really? how does it feel"

he shrugs his shoulders, "odd to be honest, everything feels so right but there is something telling me that there is something wrong"

"what do you think is wrong?" i ask him

"i- i don't know"

i suddenly don't want my vanilla ice cream anymore and look around for a trash can
