Going to a party wasn't something you expected to do tonight, but being groped and harassed by Billy Hargrove definitely wasn't on the list either. What started out as an innocent conversation quickly turned into you being backed up into the corner of his living room, people dancing all around you, and music blasting in your ear.

The next thing you knew, his hands were on your boobs and his lips were on your neck. You tried pushing him off multiple times, but when none of your attempts worked, you resorted to slapping him. He slowly backed off after you hit him, drawing attention from everyone in a ten-foot radius.

You left shortly after, walking alone outside in the cold January air with snow coming down softly. You pulled your jacket closer around your body as tears fell down your face and your hair stuck to your cheeks.

You definitely weren't going home that night - you told your parents you would be at your friend's house. You knew she would always cover for you, so you decided not to go to her place either.

Instead, you chose your best friend: Steve Harrington. You guys had been attached at the hip since sixth grade, and your parents had tried to get you two together multiple times. You guys graduated together and you were there for him through everything, and he was the same with you.

Every time you had a problem, you went to Steve. He always helped you no matter what you were dealing with, which gave you a support system that you could rely on.

When you walked up to his front door, the tears had stopped and dried on your skin. You knocked on the door, being met with a comforting face.

"Hey," Steve said, a smirk forming on his face. "Did you walk here? It's snowing."

"Yeah. I just wanted to hang out," you lied.

It wasn't entirely a lie. You did want to hang out with him, but that wasn't the main reason you were there.

To be honest, you didn't even know how to talk about this to him. You'd never had something like this happen, and you weren't sure how he'd take it. Knowing Steve, Billy would probably be dead by the morning.

"Come on in," he said, stepping to the side and pulling you back into reality. "Go sit by the fireplace and warm up." When you walked into his living room, you were pleasantly surprised to see there was already a rather large fire going. You immediately walked over, sitting on the floor in front of it and embracing the warmth.

A moment later, you felt him standing next to you. He reached down and handed you a mug with hot chocolate and three marshmallows. You smiled up at him and took it.

"Thanks," you said softly. You then felt a blanket wrap around you, which you took happily. He sat next to you a few seconds later as you silently drank your hot chocolate.

"You need to stay here tonight?" he asked.

Steve always let you stay over, regardless of what time you arrived. You always had a bed to sleep in when you weren't home, something you needed a lot of the time.

You nodded as you stared into the fire. He also nodded as if to say "okay".

"You didn't come here from your house, did you?"

You looked at him. "What?"

"You're wearing a dress." You only wore dresses on special occasions, and he knew you didn't have anything planned that day. "Plus you're wearing makeup." You also only wore makeup on special occasions, and he always noticed. "Where'd you go?"

You sighed. "A party."

He furrowed his brows. "You don't like parties."

"I know. I was bored, and I heard there was one a few neighborhoods from here. I just wanted to get out and do something."

"You should've asked me to come. We could've gone together."

You realized in that moment that if Steve was there, Billy probably wouldn't have groped you. And that was when you felt more tears coming on.

"Yeah, I guess." You looked back at the fire and took another drink of your hot chocolate, a marshmallow slipping between your lips.

You saw him out of the corner of your eye furrowing his brows.

"Are you okay?" he asked quietly.

"Yeah, of course. Why?"

"You're not usually this quiet. Did something happen at the party?"

"What? Of course not," you lied. But Steve was good at knowing when you were lying.

"Y/N. What happened?"

"Seriously, Steve, nothing happened."

He reached over and placed a hand on your shoulder. "Talk to me," he said sternly.

You sighed. "So, I was at the party getting punch and someone came up behind me. I turned around and saw Billy. He seemed normal enough until he backed me into a corner." You saw Steve's expression turn to slight anger. "He was kissing all over me and grabbing me and everything, so I slapped him and he backed off."

"That bastard," Steve said with a sigh. "I'm gonna kill him."

"That's only gonna make things worse and you know it. He's had his eyes on me since he got here. He probably thought he was gonna get his way with me."

"What he did was wrong."

"Yeah. But I want him to leave me alone, Steve. Don't do anything. If you want to talk to him go ahead, but don't make it physical, okay?"

He nodded. "Fine. But if he does anything else, I'm gonna beat the shit out of him."

"Deal."

He scooted closer and wrapped his arm around you, pulling you in close. "You know I love you, right?" he whispered.

Even though you guys were just friends, he still told you he loved you, because he did. You guys loved each other as much as you could without being in a relationship.

The kids always teased you about it, mostly Dustin. He always pined for you guys to get together, even though you didn't have feelings for each other.

"Yeah. I love you, too."

"Good. Do you want to go to bed?" he asked, looking down at you.

"Yeah. I'm exhausted."

That night you slept cuddled up next to Steve in his bed embracing the warmth and safety of having him next to you. You were genuinely afraid of what he would do to Billy.

Not that you liked Billy, and not that you cared if he got beaten up, but because you didn't want to escalate the situation.

Billy had been infatuated with you since the second he saw you, and he was relentless in his attempts to get with you. That's why you were surprised at yourself for even giving him the time of day at the party.

But you decided not to think about that for the rest of the night. Instead, you would focus on how comfortable Steve's bed was and how thankful you were for him.

He was your best friend, and that was all you could ask for.
