What started as a small argument between you and your boyfriend Jack had turned into a full-on fight. Holes were in walls, glass was shattered, his nightstand was on its side, and his porcelain lamp was in pieces. You two were screaming at each other, thanking God his parents were working night shifts.

It also happened to be the night with the heaviest rainfall in five years in Hawkins, only making the fight more intense. You had started arguing about him jokingly flirting with other girls to annoy you, and then it turned into a fight about how all he did being disrespectful and demeaning towards you.

You guys had been together the whole day. In fact, you were about to have sex when the fight started.

"Where are you going?" he asked as you both got dressed.

"I don't know. Probably a motel or something so you don't show up at my house."

"You're insane. You can't go outside in this!"

"Well, I'm going to."

When you were dressed and had your shoes on, you walked to the door. He grabbed your arm and pulled you back.

"Let go of me, Jack."

"Not until we talk this out."

"Let go. I'm serious."

"No!"

You pried his fingers off of your arm and dashed down the stairs.

"We're over, Jack. I'm done," you said, standing at the door as he stood on the bottom step. "I'm so sick and tired of this shit. It's all we do anymore. We fight and then I go home. I'm done. You can come to get your stuff tomorrow while I'm at work."

"Y/N-"

"No. I'm not fighting anymore." And with that, you stormed out of his house, not even caring about how soaked you'd be by the time you got home.

About twenty minutes later, you were walking down one of the country roads that barely had any streetlights, so you were practically blind. You'd stepped off the road a few times and into the mud and you just knew that it wouldn't wash out of your shoes.

A few cars drove by, illuminating the road for a few seconds. But one car stopped next to you and the driver flipped the light on, showing his face. You looked over to see a boy about your age with brown hair that stuck up on its own.

He looked kind and had a worried smile on his face.

"Hey!" He had to shout over the rain for you to hear. You leaned down and looked into the window at him. "You want a ride? You're soaked."

"Do you mind?"

"Not at all. Hop in."

You opened the door and sat in the passenger seat, waiting for him to drive off once you shut the door. When you guys started driving again, he spoke up.

"What are you doing walking out here?"

"I had a fight with my boyfriend. It almost got physical. He was punching his walls and broke his lamp."

"Jesus."

"I broke up with him before I left."

After a moment, he said, "I'm Steve, by the way."

"Y/N."

"So... where do you live?" You didn't answer. "I can't exactly drive you home if you don't tell me your address."
