Lucas and Max swept up broken glass as Mike paced, which was beginning to get on all of your nerves.

"Mike, would you just stop already?" he said.

"You weren't in there, okay, Lucas?" He said, referring to the Hawkins Lab. "That lab is swarming with hundreds of those dogs."

"Demo-dogs!" Dustin corrected from the kitchen, to which Mike rolled his eyes.

"The chief will take her of her," Lucas insisted.

"Like she needs protection," Max mumbled.

Steve walked over, wiping his hands with a kitchen towel. You followed and stood next to him as he started talking. "Listen, dude, a coach calls a play in a game, bottom line, you execute it. All right?"

You raised an eyebrow at his sports analogy.

"Okay, first of all, this isn't some stupid sports game," Mike agreed. "And second, we're not even in the game. We're on the bench."

"Ri- So my point is..." You raised both eyebrows as he stuttered his way through his argument. Everyone waited for him to continue. "Right, yeah, we're on the bench, so, uh, there's nothing we can do." He tossed the towel over his shoulder, which made him look like a housewife.

"That's not entirely true," Dustin interjected. "I mean, these Demo-dogs, they have a hive mind. When they ran away from the bus, they were called away."

"If we get their attention..."

"Maybe we can draw them from the lab," Max suggested.

"And clear a path to the gate."

"Yeah, and then we all die," Steve said, throwing his hands into the air as if it should be obvious.

"That's one point of view," Dustin said.

"No, that's not a point of view, man. That's a fact."

Mike's eyes went wide and he walked to the other side of the room. "I got it!" he exclaimed. He pointed to one of the points on the map of Hawkins that Will had drawn. "This is where the chief dug his hole. This is our way into the tunnel. So..." He stood up and walked back into the living room. "Here, right here. This is like a hub. So you've got all the tunnels feeding in here. Maybe if we set this on fire..."

"Oh, yeah? That's a no," Steve said firmly.

"The mind flayer would call away his army," you joined.

"Babe?" Steve said, looking at you. You just shrugged in response.

"They'd all come to stop us."

"Then we circle back to the exit."

"Guys," Steve said.

"By the time they'd realize we're gone-"

"El would be at the gate," you said.

You heard Steve start clapping to get your attention. "Hey, hey, hey!" You all turned to look at him and he had his hands on his hips. "This is not happening," he said as he pointed between all of you.

"But-"

"No, no, no, no, no. No 'but's. I promised I'd keep you shitheads safe, and that's exactly what I plan on doing. We're staying here. On the bench. And we're waiting for the starting team to do their job. Does everybody understand that?"

"This isn't a stupid sports game!"

"I said-" He grabbed the towel and held it while he pointed to Mike, "-does everybody understand that? I need a yes."
