When routine bites hard and ambitions are low
And resentment rides high but emotions won't grow
And we're changing our ways, taking different roads
Love, love will tear us apart again
We were once again gathered up on top of the roof to eat our lunch. At this point we were avoiding the cafeteria altogether, especially with the little kitten around. Shouta seemed especially down today.
"All my Erasure can do is trip people up a little. I can't do anything on my own. And I'm definitely not putting smiles on people's faces. So all this talk about how to best use our Quirks? Or what we wanna do with them? In all honesty, I just can't relate." he muttered, as he pushed his food away, a gloomy look on his face. I leaned against his shoulder, trying to chew down my food, before saying something. But Oboro was faster, because he didn't care whether he was speaking with a full mouth or not.
"Yeah? So how about tripping up villains?"
"Going the battle route? I have a hard time picturing it." Hizashi commented with raised eyebrows.
"Quirk matchups can make or break a fight, y'know. But with your Erasure, Shouta, you can force a villain to fight on even terms. It's a real talent." Oboro countered, shoving even more food into his mouth.
"I'm not much of a fighter myself, though. And what would I do against some big brawler...?" Shouta muttered, before his eyes fell on Oboro who was feeding the cat some of his own lunch.
"Hey. Wait a sec. Don't give people food to the cat. That's bad for him." Shouta told him, picking up the cat and grabbing a bottle of milk. I didn't really know why, but for some reason Shouta had some in his locker.
"Oh yeah?" Oboro asked.
"Good thing I had the sense to keep some cat milk here. Though bringing the little guy to school in the first place is against the rules." Shouta muttered as he started feeding the little kitten.
"Yeah, but I'd feel even worse leaving him at home all day." Oboro just mused, as I started to steal some of Shouta's lunch. I was super hungry and he wasn't going to eat it, anyway, so no harm done.
"Especially when you know Aizawa will take care of him here." Hizashi agreed with Oboro, nodding.
"Where's he doing his business at school?" Shouta wanted to know.
"Mostly on me!" Oboro replied proudly.
"Hahaha! Gross, man!" Hizashi commented, laughing loudly. Shouta sighed and shook his head.
"You have to train him right." he started, but was interrupted by a voice coming from a little higher up.
"My, my, what're you three doing, eating lunch up here?"I looked up and saw a girl in a hero costume. Definitely a third year and those glasses? They were iconic. I knew exactly who that was. I looked over at Oboro and he already started blushing.
"Oh, it's that third year... Kayama, right? She's so cool!" I squealed, grinning even more at Oboro.
"The roof is off-limits to students, but you snuck up here anyway? That sort of violation is what youth is all about! I love it!" Kayama shouted and jumped down from her spot, landing in front of them.
"What're you doing here?" Oboro asked, obviously getting over his shyness and deciding to try his luck.
"I'm just on my way home from my work study. I had some paperwork to do here at school. I stopped by the roof, 'cause it's one of my favourite spots." she explained with a smile which made Oboro blush.
"Who's the rule breaker now?" Hizashi chimed in, giving her finger guns. Shouta cleared his throat, before looking her up and down and raising his eyebrows.
"Um, so... are you not wearing anything under that coat?" he asked.
"This is my costume." Kayama replied proudly. Shouta seemed utterly confused, which made me snicker.
"The queen has no clothes..." I mumbled.
"Some high-tech material that's invisible to idiots?" Shouta asked.
"Oh, self-burn." Hizashi said.
"Hooray for being an idiot!" Oboro shouted, raising his hands up in the air. Kayama sighed and shook her head.
"You just don't get it. It's bold yet practical... functional beauty! I needed to support both my Quirk and my moves! And this fabulous design serves both purposes. I don't feel ashamed about it in the least." she replied.
"Oh yeah? Maybe you should." Shouta answered, quickly being shut up by Oboro who was throwing his arms around him and Hizashi.
"Now, now, nobody asked for your opinion, Shouta. If you've got a problem with beauty, then I've got a problem with your taste." he replied. Shouta and I looked at each other, shaking our heads.
"Let people say what they will. It's a trendsetter's fate to be scorned and questioned. But just watch me! I'll have all of Japan thinking differently in one year's time!" Kayama announced confidently. Honestly, I did kind of like her. She was cool and she didn't seem as scary as the first time I met her.
"But nevermind me. What's with the kitty cat?" she then asked, pointing at the kitten that Shouta was holding.
"Oh. That..." he mumbled.
"Me and Shouta are taking care of him." Oboro quickly said.
"You really shouldn't bring an animal to school. Now, give it here." Kayama told them. Shouta carefully handed her the kitten. She held it up to her face and started cooing at it in a baby voice.
"Awww, so fwuffy! Where did you come fwom, widdle kitty? Will you get sweepy from some tum-tum wubs?"
"Cuteness overload." I commented, as I watched all three of my friends blushing furiously watching her.
"What's his name?" Kayama asked.
"Err, uhm..." Oboro stammered, rubbing the back of his neck nervously. Of course none of us had thought of naming him."Undecided." Shouta just deadpanned.
"Okay, what're your favourite foods?" Kayama wanted to know.
"Sushi!" Oboro shouted quickly.
"Fried chicken." Hizashi commented, way too loud.
"Nothing, really." Shouta just muttered, grumpy as usual.
"Ramen." I said, simply because it was the first thing I could think of. Kayama nodded and thought for a while.
"Sushi works best out of those." she replied, before lifting the kitten back up to her face and nuzzling into him.
"Aren't you just the tastiest little sushi roll? I wanna gobble you up, nom, nom, nom." she cooed with a big smile.
"By the way, we're trying to find him a permanent home." Oboro remarked with a wide grin on his face. Kayama sighed and turned around to them, still holding Sushi. She shook her head.
"Sadly, I'm planning to leave home after graduation, so I won't be in a good place to care for this little one. They say you have a harder time getting married as a single cat owner. Meaning, I can't take him for too long. Hurry up and find a real home for this fur baby." she said, before quickly sneaking off. With Sushi in her hands. I raised my eyebrows, as I watched her run off.
"Is it just me or do we all get the feeling she'll keep Sushi?"
