I need an easy friend

I do, with an ear to lend

The day had been hot and humid and it was one of the last days of summer break. Even now in the evening the air was still awfully hot and humid. I had been sweating the entire day and I knew exactly what this meant - there would be a thunderstorm later. Hopefully we'd at least make it all the way home, before it started. I had no problem with a thunderstorm at home.

Well, I did, but not as much, because at home it would just be Shouta and me today, since Oboro was going to stay over at Hizashi's place for a change. So if we didn't get caught in the rain we could just get some food and cuddle up at home and the thunder would be way less scary.

But as I looked up into the sky, I could already see the dark clouds. I was pretty sure that we wouldn't be able to make it all the way back home without getting caught up in the rain. Not with the kind of speed that Shouta and Oboro were moving at, as if they had all the time in the world.

"Can we... maybe hurry up a little?" I asked, hoping they'd understand the urgency of the situation.

"Why? You got something to do?" Oboro wanted to know. I sighed. I wasn't going to tell him that I was terrified of thunder. Hell no. Oboro was the nicest person in the world, but it still felt embarrassing to admit that to him. The only other person that knew was Shouta. And Yuki, but well... that was a different story.

"No, but look at the clouds. I'm sure it'll start raining any second." I replied. Shouta and Oboro glanced at the dark clouds in the sky and then Oboro just shrugged and grinned at me.

"It's just water, (F/N), don't even worry about it." he said. Shouta gave me another side glance. I wondered if he remembered that I didn't like thunderstorms very much. He had been there with me for one, after all. He scratched the back of his neck and squeezed my hand gently.

"It's alright, I don't particularly want to get wet either. You'll have to go to the train station anyway, don't you, Oboro?" Shouta asked. He nodded quickly, obviously realizing that there was something else going on. After all, it wouldn't be an issue for him to just make a cloud that would keep all of us dry.

"Yeah, sure. I see how it is. You wanna get rid of me, don't you?" he asked with a smirk. Shouta rolled his eyes.

"Sure. If it makes you feel better." Shouta replied.

"Oboro, we would never want to get rid of you, we just want you to enjoy as much time as possible with Hizashi." I said.

"It's alright, it's alright, I'll get over it. See you tomorrow, guys! Have fun with whatever you're doing and please don't tell me about it." Oboro answered with a chuckle, as he headed over to the train station, waving at us.

"See you, Oboro!" I said waving back at him.

"Don't be late for work again tomorrow!" Shouta added, as we watched him run off quickly. Shouta looked down at me.

"So you wanna head home quickly?" he asked me. I nodded quickly, grabbing his hand a little tighter.

"Yeah."

"Because of the rain?"

"No, because... you know, there'll probably be a thunderstorm and..." I muttered, blushing a little. Shouta chuckled and pulled me into an embrace, ruffling my hair and kissing the top of my head.

"It's okay. We'll head home quickly, okay? No need to worry about the thunder." Shouta replied, before letting go of me. We started making our way back towards the apartment, but the sun had already disappeared and the clouds were getting darker and thicker over our heads.

"You think we'll make it before it starts raining?" I asked him. Shouta glanced up at the sky and frowned.

"I don't know. I almost doubt it. Why didn't you say something earlier?" he wanted to know. I shrugged and rubbed the back of my neck. It seemed kind of silly now that I didn't want to look stupid.

"I don't know, I guess I'm just a little embarrassed that I'm that scared of thunderstorms." I admitted.

"But Oboro would be the last person that would say anything about it. He'd probably forget it five minutes later." Shouta answered with a laugh. I sighed and shook my head. I don't know why I felt embarrassed about telling Oboro, there really was no reason for that at all. But somehow it still made a difference.

"Yeah, I don't know. I just didn't want to have to explain myself or anything. Anyway, I just felt a drop, so maybe we should really hurry, because getting soaked by the rain was also not really on my to do list." I said and held out my hand. Shit, it was definitely starting to rain right now.

"Come on then, let's hurry." Shouta replied and grabbed my hand. We started lightly jogging through the streets, as the rain was getting heavier and heavier with each passing second. Thankfully it was still warm enough outside, but I could already feel the goosebumps forming on my skin.

"This'll take ages until it's over, right?" I asked, wondering whether it was maybe a better idea to just get some cover somewhere and wait it out. But then I heard the noise of thunder in the distance.

"Yeah, plus we're already wet anyway. Come on, let's hurry home. No need to worry, I've got you, okay?" Shouta replied, speeding up a little, as he was still holding onto my hand. I took a deep breath, as there was another rumbling in the distance. We thankfully weren't too far from home now.

"Well, at least we'll finally be able to open the window and air out the apartment without making it all even worse." I joked, before I winced when I heard another thunderclap, this time much closer.

"Yeah, thank God. It's way too warm in that room." Shouta agreed, as we turned into the street that our apartment block was on. Not long now. I couldn't wait to get out of those wet clothes. Sure, the rain was refreshing, but I hated the feeling of my clothes sticking to my skin.

"Do you have the keys?" I asked him. I was too lazy to fish my keys out of my back right now, so I just hoped Shouta had them ready. He always did, because as a matter of fact, Shouta was way more organized than I was. He was way more organized than all of us together, actually.

"Sure. You know, some day you're going to leave your keys somewhere and you won't notice for months and by then they'll be gone and you'll never see them again and you'll only realize in your greatest time of need." he said, as he fished the keys out of his pocket and opened the door.

"Wow, there was no need to be this dramatic about my lack of organization." I said jokingly and was about to laugh, but then I choked, as I jumped from another loud thunderclap. Shouta smiled at me softly and held the door open for me and I quickly went inside. The air in the hallway was really warm and stuffy. I leaned against the wall, trying to calm my beating heart.

"Come on. Let's get upstairs and get out of those clothes. How about we order delivery food and wrap up in a blanket together? Then I can hold you throughout the entire thunderstorm." Shouta suggested.

"That sounds amazing, Shou. Thank you so much."

"Hey, anything for you." he replied with a warm smile that made me melt completely on the inside.

"I love you. So much." I said to him.

"Love you, too." he said, pulling me into another tight embrace, running his hands through my hair. I rested my head against his chest, as I felt his breath against my ear and my neck, as he whispered into my ear.

"And I really can't wait to get you out of these clothes..."
