We are The Prodigy
Invaders must die
We started back up with a harsh training plan pretty soon after the summer break. And our teacher thought that a joint training between class A and B would be a great plan, so now we had to meet up with them and train with them once a month. It was annoying to say the least.
Especially since today's training would end up in a sparring match and I already knew that I wouldn't be with Shouta. And that just really sucked. Our teacher had announced that he wanted to "break the four of us up for once", so I already knew that I wouldn't be paired up with Shouta.
Maybe I'd get paired up with either Oboro or Hizashi, if I was lucky. That would be the best I could hope for. But right now I was waiting for our teacher to announce who would be in a team and who they'd be up against. Shouta had already been painted up with Yuki and he looked like he was miserable.
I truly felt sorry for him, especially since Yuki still seemed to have a grudge against me and she knew that I liked Shouta. And now they had to cooperate. Seemed like a terrible idea, but no one was asking for my opinion anyway. The one good thing I had going for me was that Sensei had been feeling very apologetic towards our little four person squad, especially since Watanabe had been expelled.
We really had Iida to thank for that, since he brought this whole thing up with our teacher over and over again and Sensei liked Iida. So it was pretty lucky for us that he was on our side and actually speaking up for us. They were finally believing us, because Iida was backing us up.
But yeah, at least Watanabe was gone and Sensoji and the rest of them had gotten detention, since they apparently all had turned on Watanabe when the teachers had questioned them about the incident (that's what they called it - it sounded better than saying that Shouta got beaten to a pulp).
So now, here I was, waiting to hear who I'd be paired up with. I really hoped I'd get either Oboro or Hizashi, just to avoid any awkwardness. I had gotten so used to hanging out with just the three of them that I hadn't really gotten to know the rest of the class very well. I knew their names and most of their Quirks, but it still felt weird, because I was part of this little group that everyone disliked.
"Yamada and Iida against Ikura and Kendo." our teacher said. I glanced over at Oboro who grimaced at me. So it was just the two of us left. Hideko was still left and no one was paired up against Sensoji yet. Getting paired up with Hideko probably wouldn't be too bad. I had no idea if we were still friends or whatever, but she seemed much more agreeable than Yuki lately.
"Ken and Yuga against Tanaka and Kawamura." was the next pair. Shit. Hideko was gone, too...
"Shirakumo and (Y/N) against Sensoji and Kenji."
Oh no. I had no idea whether I should be glad to be paired up with Oboro or whether I should be terrified because we were up against Sensoji and that other kid. I wasn't really sure what Kenji's Quirk was, but the two of us against Sensoji's air blasts? I was absolutely convinced we would die.
I mean with Shirakumo, we had the cloud, but that was by no means unbreakable and even if we used it as a shield, I was pretty sure that Sensoji's air blasts could easily go through that. And I only had my illusions to work with. I really needed to get better at actual fighting soon.
I saw Oboro walking up to me to discuss strategy and I knew that he was thinking just the same thing as me. This was it. This was the end of our hero careers and our lives. Unless we came up with an amazing strategy right there on the spot. As much as I loved Oboro, this was not the best match up.
"So. How are we going to do this? Do we just give up straight away?" I asked when Oboro was in earshot.
"What? Hell, no. I'm sure we'll be able to come up with a good plan. We might not have the strongest or most physical Quirks, but we can make it work. Sensoji has his air blasts, but we are fast, while he's bulky. I think the only way we can win this is by speed and distraction."
"Okay. Okay. What is the other guy's Quirk?" I wanted to know. Oboro glanced back at the two of them, as they were strategizing.
"I think he can make dust clouds or something. He can use dust and dirt somehow. I suppose they might be trying to blast compressed dirt at us, which will hurt like shit." Oboro muttered.
"Or he'll try and get dust in our eyes, so we can't see. Anyway, we gotta protect our eyes somehow..." I said. Oboro grinned and rummaged through his pockets, handing me a pair of goggles.
"I've got an extra pair on me. You'll have to be able to see, right? How about this, if he goes for the dust cloud, you make it look like we're out coughing, while I get us close to them on the cloud. They won't be able to see anything like that. If they go for the dirt blasts, we just gotta dodge and make our way towards them and you can distract them with an illusion, right?" he suggested. I placed the goggles over my eyes. They were way too big on me, but Oboro was right. We needed to protect our eyes in this.
"Alright, time for discussion is up. Let's get this over with. Shirakumo, (L/N), Sensoji and Kenji, you're up first." the teacher then announced. Oboro and I looked at each other. This was it.
I took a deep breath, as I took my position next to Oboro in the middle of the gym. Sensoji was grinning at both of us, as if he had already won, while the other kid looked like he'd rather not be here. And honestly? I would have preferred being somewhere else, myself. Maybe sitting in a cozy classroom for General Studies, not having to worry about a brute like Sensoji.
But here I was and the signal for us to start the match came way too soon. I had not been expecting this. Kenji started whirling up dust from the ground until he and Sensoji were wrapped in dust. Oboro and I nodded at each other. Plan A it was. We looked back at them just in time to dodge one of Sensoji's air blasts.
The thing was that he couldn't see us either, but he could still fire air blasts in all directions, hoping to hit us with one. I ran over to Oboro, as he pulled me onto the cloud, floating us closer towards where Sensoji and Kenji were standing. I activated my Quirk as soon as I saw them and made it appear like we were standing right in front of them, while Oboro dropped me down quietly behind Kenji.
When he had made it behind Sensoji, we nodded at each other again and attacked. I jumped up on Kenji's back and quickly put him in a chokehold, kicking the back of his knees, so he fell to the ground and I could immobilize him. He wasn't scrawny, but he also wasn't built like Sensoji, so I could take him with just that little bit of unfair advantage. He was out faster than I thought.
I looked over to Oboro who had Sensoji pinned to the ground with his quarterstaff. Sensoji was still struggling against him and it didn't look too good for poor Oboro. He was standing his ground, but he was really struggling and Sensoji was far from out. Meanwhile, Kenji held up his arm, indicating that he was out.
The teacher nodded and I let him get up, so he could walk out of the area in which we were fighting. I looked back at Sensoji. He was gaining the upper hand again, blasting Oboro off of him with his Quirk. I ran over, not sure how to help. The first thing that came to my mind was grabbing Oboro's quarterstaff mid-air.
As Oboro was flying backwards, I grabbed the staff and rammed it into Sensoji's chest which made him stumble back and seemed to have knocked the breath out of him. I quickly ran up to him, using the moment of surprise I had, kicking his shins and bringing down the staff on the back of his neck.
I was doing my best to hold him down, but he kept struggling and struggling and was about to throw me off when I got unexpected help from Oboro. He had made it back to me and was now helping me pin Sensoji to the ground. And that was it. The fight was over. Oboro and I had won.
