Then someone will say what is lost can never be saved

Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage

I had missed one or two fights while I was showering, getting changed and getting healed by Recovery Girl. By the time I made my way up to Aizawa and Shirakumo the fight just before Yamada's fight was on.

"Hey, guys." I said shyly. They both looked over to me and Aizawa moved his jacket from the seat next to him.

"Sit down." he replied. I slowly sat down and tried leaning back, but it was no good. I hissed at the pain when my back touched the back of the seat. This wasn't good. That bruise would be there for a good while.

"How are you feeling? You did take a bit of a beating, after all." Shirakumo wanted to know. I sighed.

"My back hurts like shit. Gonna get a lot of bruising there. And he bruised my leg, too, when he fell over it. If I don't make it through training when we're back to school, you can blame Iida." I answered.

"Aw man, that sounds real bad." Shirakumo said and focussed on the fight again. I had no idea who was fighting at the moment and I didn't really have that much energy left after my fight. Using my quirk like that after the workout they had put us through in the first two rounds had made me tired.

"You did really good, (L/N). I mean it." Aizawa said to me quietly. I looked over to him. He still had his usual serious look, but the corners of his mouth were turned up slightly. This was the most precious thing he had said to me all day and it even made me blush a little. I looked down, trying not to smile like an idiot.

"Thanks, Aizawa. You know you really deserved to be there instead. You'd be really good in a one on one fight." I replied.

"Only if they're physically weaker than me. And if they don't catch me out on my blinking." he answered with a sigh.

"Guys, guys, Yamada's up. Against Oyama." Shirakumo said and held out a bag of crisps, not taking his eyes off the arena. This would get interesting. Yuki's quirk was to grow ice shards and icicles out of her body, which she could use as weapons and hurl at her opponents.

Those things were really sharp and I had learned that the hard way when we were younger and weren't really able to control our quirks yet. The thing was that it took her a few seconds to grow them and those few seconds could be the deciding factor. If Yamada managed to get her out of bounds before that, he could easily win.

"Who do you think will win?" Shirakumo asked, looking over at me. I shrugged. I really had no idea.

"Difficult to say. Yamada can have a huge advantage, but only if he thinks fast enough." I replied.

"I think he can do it. He's always really hyper, but he's not stupid. Like at all." Aizawa said, leaning forward to better see the match.

The teacher had just given them the sign to start the fight and Yuki was already starting to grow ice shards out of her arms, while Yamada just stood there, grinning. Once she was holding the shards in her hands and got ready to attack he leaned forward, a big grin still on his face.

"Begone THOT!" he shouted at her, loud enough to break the shards in her hands in tiny little pieces - giving her cuts all over her arm and even a few in her face - and to make her fall to the ground in pain. He quickly ran over to her and more or less rolled her out of bounds. The whole thing was over as soon as it had started.

"And... Oyama is out of bounds and Yamada advances to the next round!" the teacher announced. The three of us looked at each other, not quite sure what had just happened, before beginning to cheer for our friend.
