Rock on, Gold Dust Woman
Take your silver spoon, dig your grave
Heartless challenge
Pick your path and I'll pray
Summer break was getting closer and closer and to my great annoyance my parents had planned a two-week holiday, which meant I couldn't see Shouta at all during that time. I sometimes wondered whether they were planning stuff like that on purpose, since they knew they couldn't outright tell me to stop seeing him. But maybe I just noticed it more often lately, because I never had a reason to want to stay at home before. Probably a mix of both those things.
So now I really had to use my time until the summer break wisely. Especially since I was going to start my own work studies soon enough which was nerve-wracking. At least for me, because I was really anxious about making mistakes or screwing up big time during my time as an intern.
So as of now I was spending pretty much every free minute I had with Shouta, Oboro and Hizashi, since our summer breaks would be cut short unexpectedly. Well, Shouta and Oboro were still trying to get a work study placement, but I would have to work which meant less time with my friends and my boyfriend. And hopefully they'd find a place to do work studies at, too.
I was waiting outside the school building for the two of them right now. Shouta had sent me some cryptic text message about them possibly being a bit later than usual and I wasn't really sure what to make of it, but I knew I had to wait for them. At least that gave me some time to get started on some assignments that were due before the break and that I hadn't even touched yet.
"Hey, hey, it's pro hero Mirage! Sitting on the stairs of her alma mater, wistfully reading over some student assignments!" I suddenly heard a voice announcing. I turned around and saw Oboro coming down the stairs, grinning at me widely. Behind him was Shouta, his face looking a little softer than usual.
"You two seem to be in an exceptionally good mood." I commented with a slight smile on my face.
"Oboro's over the moon." Shouta just said, holding out his hand to pull me up to my feet. I got up and started packing away my assignments, before shouldering my bag again and taking Shouta's hand.
"And why is that? Did he finally get a date with Kayama?" I wanted to know. Oboro shook his head.
"Better."
"Better?"
"Uh-huh. Shou and I got work studies." he said. I let out a small squeal, simply because that was the last thing I had expected. How had they found work studies so quickly? And with who?
"Really? That's amazing! Where? When do you start? And how did you get them so quickly?"
"Kayama organized them for us. And the best part is that we'll be working at the same agency as her!" Oboro explained, spinning around dramatically. He really seemed over the moon.
"Oooh, look at you, Oboro! Not long now and you'll get her!" I said and laughed. He grinned proudly.
"Yeah, Oboro thinks he's already got her wrapped around his finger, which I kind of doubt, but I'll let him believe what he wants if it makes him happy." Shouta commented, which earned him a punch to his upper arm from Oboro. I chuckled. Honestly, I was really glad that they had finally managed to find somewhere to do work studies. At least our teacher wouldn't have it out for them anymore. Not when it came to the damn work studies, at least anyway.
"I'm glad you found a place. So how did this happen? And who exactly are you interning with?" I wanted to know.
"What? Starting with questions straight away? I don't get a kiss first?" Shouta grumbled, acting disappointed. I laughed and quickly shook my head, turning away from him demonstratively.
"No, not until you two tell me the whole story." I told him. Oboro gasped and gave me a shocked look.
"Wow, how cruel! We better hurry up then, Shou Shou!" he exclaimed. Shouta just rolled his eyes.
"Fine, we were eating lunch on the rooftop and Kayama met us and told us that her agency is always looking for work studies and would be glad to take us in. So, obviously, we said yes, because any other agency was not giving us the time of day." Shouta quickly summarized.
"I can't wait to start and actually work together with Kayama! Honestly, I don't know how I'll focus on actually working." Oboro said and sighed dreamily. Shouta and I just looked at each other with a grin. I was honestly happy that Oboro seemed to be so glad about working with Kayama. If anyone deserved to be happy, it was him. He was always there for everyone, he deserved something good.
"So when are you starting? And where does Kayama work?" I wanted to know. I really hoped it would be close enough to my own agency. Maybe we could go on lunch breaks together or something.
"We're starting at the start of summer break at Purple Revolution Agency!" Oboro told me. Purple Revolution Agency? They were a smaller agency, but if I remembered correctly they weren't even that far away from my own work study agency! This was great! I would be starting a little sooner and have a break for my holiday with my parents, but that meant I could probably still spend quite some time with my friends, even during our work studies. Awesome!
"That's great! Are you excited?" I asked.
"Nervous is a better word..." Shouta mumbled. Oboro just nodded with a wide grin. Of course he was excited, after all he got to see Kayama pretty much every single day during summer.
"I can't wait for summer break to start!" he shouted, jumping up and down happily, while Shouta was tugging on my hand and looking at me expectantly. I had no idea what he wanted...
"Shou? All good?" I asked him with raised eyebrows. He rolled his eyes and stopped in his tracks.
"I think I was promised a kiss?" he replied. Oh, right. I had completely forgotten about that. I grinned and got up on my toes, wrapping my arms around his neck and giving him a long kiss.
"Ewwwww." Oboro commented and snickered to himself. I unwrapped one of my hands from around Shouta's neck and gave him the middle finger, before breaking away from the kiss and turning back around to him.
"Get a room, you two." he joked.
"Actually, speaking of a room. I'll have to definitely get a room closer to the city for my work studies, so... you know if any of you two want to stay over, since your agency should be pretty close..." I told them.
"You mean, you want Shouta to stay over, so you have some privacy and don't always have to hang out at my place?" Oboro asked. I shrugged and nodded. I mean, he wasn't wrong about that.
"Kind of. I mean you're always welcome, you know that. And you can both stay there when I'm on vacation. Unless you'd prefer to stay at Kayama's place, of course, Oboro." I said with a grin.
"Well, obviously I'd prefer staying at Kayama's place, no offense. But I mean... baby steps. I'll have to ask her out first." Oboro replied, nodding to himself. Shouta leaned in closer to me.
"And he's not brave enough for that yet. Might take another year or so." he whispered to me, which made me chuckle. Of course Oboro had heard it, too. He shot Shouta a hurt glare and shook his head.
"And I thought you were my friends..."
