Perfect strangers down the line
Lovers out of time
Memories unwind
"We've been waiting for them for like 20 minutes now. I doubt Oboro and Hizashi are still going to show up." Shouta said to me. I checked my phone for the millionth time. Still no texts from the two of them.
"Alright. I guess, they know where we're gonna be, if they still decide to come over. So do you have a plan for this?" I wanted to know. We were standing in front of a big wall that separated us from our current goal - the U.A. swimming pool.
It was a warm summer night, we were still on our summer break and we were bored out of our minds. The plan to break into the U.A. pool at midnight had come to fruition and today we were supposed to do, but it seemed like Hizashi and Oboro weren't going to show. Just me and Shouta then.
"I guess we could scale the wall. Somehow." Shouta suggested. He looked around the area and seemed to notice something. He briskly walked over to a large tree whose branches were almost hanging over the wall. Looked like a good opportunity, but risky. I wouldn't be able to climb up there.
"That's not gonna work." I said to him. He gave me a small smirk and got his capture weapon out of his jacket.
"I came prepared." was all he said, as he threw it out towards one of the stronger branches. It wrapped around the branch. Shouta was holding it from the other end and nodded towards me.
"Go on, climb up!" he told me. I looked at him with my eyebrow raised and then grabbed the material of the binding cloth. It felt as rough as usual. I had no idea whether I could do this or not. I jumped up and started climbing. It went better than expected, but it still seemed scarier than it should have been.
"You better catch me if I fall!" I shouted at Shouta who was patiently waiting and holding the binding cloth.
"Don't worry, I'll always catch you." he replied, just as I was pulling myself up onto the branch. I looked down at Shouta who had now started climbing up the tree himself. Only when I looked down I realized how high up we actually were. If I had fallen, it wouldn't have killed me, but I'd definitely have broken a few bones.
I still had no idea how exactly Shouta planned to get over that wall and down to the ground, but for some reason I trusted him to think of something. He was Shouta Aizawa, after all. He was smart. At least when it came to stuff like this. He was always able to figure out some solution.
"Okay, I never tried this next part before, but technically it should work and we shouldn't get electrocuted..." Shouta said, as he was pulling himself up onto the branch next to me. What he had said didn't exactly inspire much confidence, but I waited until he had untied his capture weapon from the tree branch.
"What exactly do you have in mind?" I wanted to know. Shouta looked up into the sky and then back at me.
"Do you trust me, (F/N)?" he asked.
"I guess so."
"Good. Then hold onto me, okay? I'm pretty sure this will work..." he said and held out his arm. I got up onto the tree branch (which started swinging concerningly) and held onto his torso tightly.
He took a deep breath and threw out his capture weapon. Just as the branch started cracking dangerously it wrapped around a bunch of electricity cables and Shouta jumped over the wall with me, using the binding cloth to swing inside the walls. It unwrapped at that moment and we fell down onto the grass around the pool. It could have been a gentler landing, but at least we had made it inside.
"I'm never trusting you again..." I complained as I rubbed my arm. I'd have a bunch of bruises from this, I already knew it.
"Yeah, I didn't think this through as much as I should have..." Shouta agreed. I laughed and shook my head.
"It's fine. We got in, didn't we? And we're both still alive. So let's go and enjoy this." I said and started taking off my shoes and my jacket. I had all the things I couldn't lose under any circumstances packed away in my jacket - my phone, keys and wallet. I dropped my jacket on the ground next to my shoes and pulled my shirt over my head.
"Man, Zashi and Oboro sure are missing out." Shouta muttered. I was about to slap the back of his head with my shirt, but then I realized he was looking up at the stars that were sparkling brightly in the dark night sky. I looked back down at the pool which was only lit up with the tiny bit of emergency lighting that was left on overnight. There was a slight mist over the surface. It felt as if we had stepped into some sort of different world, an almost magical one.
"You know, I'm kinda glad they're not here. Yet." I said, completely lost in thought as I looked back up at the sky, noticing the black silhouettes of the trees surrounding the pool hovering at the horizon like ghosts trying to pull us back to the real world. Shouta looked at me with a small smile.
"Yeah, they'd just be really loud, wouldn't they?" he replied. I laughed, as I was taking off my pants. I was wearing my bikini underneath my clothes, since it had always been the plan to go and break into the pool.
I folded my clothes up neatly and walked up to the pool, sitting down at the edge, holding my legs close to my chest. I slowly dipped one of my toes into the water and gasped a little. It was colder than I had expected. At this rate, it would take me a long time to get into the water.
I carefully inched closer to the water and held my feet into the cold water, until I got used to it. By the time I was sitting properly at the edge of the pool with my legs in the water up to my knees, Shouta had already jumped in and managed to calm his breathing again. He swam up to me with a smirk on his face.
"So are you just gonna sit there or are you getting in?" he asked.
"I'm taking my time." I told him. He shrugged.
"Suit yourself." he just replied and turned around to swim away again. I looked up into the sky. The stars really were amazing tonight. I had no idea you could see them so well from here. In the city it was usually too bright to get a proper look, but here on the U.A. grounds (and especially at this far out part of them), they were shining more brightly than I could ever have imagined.
My dabbling in stargazing was cut short, however, when I felt something tugging at my feet. Before I could realize what it was, I was pulled into the water with a loud splash (and an even louder shriek from me).
"SHOUTA AIZAWA!" I yelled once I had gotten back to the surface again and caught my breath. The water was so fucking cold. I could hear him laughing behind me. My heart was beating rapidly and I did my best to take deep breaths to calm myself down. It was just water. And it was a little cold.
"Come on, you were just wasting time out there." he said.
"I got a fright!" I protested.
"I'm sorry."
"And it's fucking cold!"
I saw him swimming up to me with a concerned look on his face. He seemed to be just as cold as me. I could see his lips quivering, as he got closer to me. He put one hand on my cheek and ran his thumb over my bottom lip. Somehow, I knew what was going to happen, but I had no idea what I was supposed to do. Was I supposed to say something? What was I supposed to say?
"Your hands seem really cold, too." I mumbled. It was a really dumb thing to say, in hindsight. But it wasn't like that mattered at all. Not back then. Shouta moved his hand to the back of my head and pulled me closer, until our lips met.
