Breathe the pressure
Come play my game, I'll test ya
"I have no idea how we're going to win this, Shouta." I said with a hint of desperation in my voice. This was our final exam and we were supposed to go against one of the third years. Our advantage was that he didn't know our quirks, but his advantage was that he was a big bulky guy. So even if Aizawa took his quirk away, chances that we'd win were slim. We had to incapacitate him to pass the exam.
"Don't worry, we'll think of something. Just don't panic. So this guy can grow crystals and shoot them out of his skin, right?" Shouta said.
"Yeah. But it's not a mutation type quirk, so you should be able to erase it. He is very strong, though." I replied. Shouta nodded.
"So I'll have to erase his quirk and you'll have to try and lure him into a trap with your illusions. I have the binding cloth, but I have only been training with them for about half a year."
"Let's just hope he doesn't find us here, before we have a plan. What could I make him see that'll lure him into a trap?" I wondered. We were hiding in an industrial complex, so there were loads of pipes around. I could make him believe that they were coming down on top of him... I could also go for an explosion from one of the big fuel tanks all around us. But what could that possibly do?
"Hey, Shouta, how quickly can you use the binding cloth?" I wanted to know. He shrugged, looking around him nervously. Had he heard something?
"I really can't say. What do you have in mind?" he whispered, still looking around the area uneasily.
"I could try and make him see something that might make him freeze for a short while, but with most things, he'll only see them. If I make him see pipes falling down on his head, he'll soon realize he's not actually buried under pipes when he doesn't feel the weight of them on him, you know? If you can manage to tie him up in that short space of time, we might have a chance." I said quietly.
"I think he's coming..." Shouta replied. We were both quiet. There was some squeaking on the pipes, but they were always squeaky and made some sort of noise. But then I heard it. There was an uncharacteristic clank and then something that sounded like steps. I looked at Shouta.
"You go and hide somewhere where you can see him. I'll bait him and try getting him to freeze or maybe run straight into the binding cloth." I said. He nodded and quickly jumped over a few pipes. He was gone. He probably could still see me, but I had no clue where the hell he was.
And I didn't like that at all. I felt alone and nervous. This was for the better, but I just couldn't stand being all on my own like this. But all I had to do was watch out and try to get a good look at him when I could see him and not blink. The labyrinth of pipes made that difficult. There were echoes coming from everywhere and it was really hard to pinpoint the origins of anything.
Thankfully I didn't need to guess for much longer, as I felt a sharp pain in my shoulder. I turned around and there he was standing. He must have fired one of his crystals at me. The wound was burning and I was pretty sure it was bleeding, too, but I had no time for this. He seemed confused right now, so Shouta was probably erasing his quirk. I had to act fast and I had to act now.
I saw Shouta coming out of hiding behind this guy we were up against. I activated my quirk and made him see an illusion of a fire quickly coming towards him. His eyes widened in shock. He probably thought that was my quirk. He quickly turned on his heel to run away from me, probably ready to attack Shouta on his way and take him out.
"Shouta, do it now!" I shouted, deactivating my quirk as I saw him use his binding cloth to wrap around the third year's body.
I ran up to him as the binding cloth pulled tight around his body. Shouta seemed a little nervous, but it had worked. That was until our opponent started pulling at it, trying to get free. He couldn't get out of it, but he pretty quickly figured out that he could just keep running and it was his strength against Shouta's.
Which obviously didn't go too well. He pulled against the restraints and Shouta fell flat on his face as he was holding onto the binding cloth. This guy was way too strong for him alone and he kept dragging him along, because Shouta absolutely refused to let go of the binding cloth.
"A little help would be appreciated!" he shouted back at me, trying to keep his face off the ground. We had at least managed to slow down our opponent, but we still needed to completely immobilize him.
"I'm on my way!" I replied as I was running up to him and grabbed the binding cloth as well. Now the two of us were holding this guy back, but he must have been training an awful lot, because he was still dragging on. At least it gave Shouta some time to get up from the ground.
"What do we do?" I asked him, slightly panicking.
"I don't know..." Shouta mumbled. I looked up at the guy who seemed determined to drag us along until we gave up or were tired out.
"I've got an idea. Try holding onto him as good as you can." I said and grabbed the binding cloth a bit closer to this guy. I slowly made my way up to him, making sure not to let go of the cloth for too long.
My arms were hurting like hell from all the strain I put on them, but I had to get up close to him. It was either that or letting him get away and trying again and I knew both Shouta and I were too tired to try again. And we really needed to pass this exam, especially with all the detention we had gotten lately.
"What the hell are you trying to do?" the third year asked us. He sounded exasperated by now and was still dragging us along. I really hoped none of our classmates was watching this, because this wasn't really an elegant way to deal with the situation. It worked somewhat, but it was far from cool.
"Taking you down and passing this fucking exam!" I shouted as I inched closer and closer to him. I saw him starting to grow some crystals on his body. Shit, Shouta had to erase his quirk again."Shouta, he's using his quirk!" I yelled. The crystals stopped growing and the third year groaned in frustration. I used this opportunity to deliver the strongest kick I could do to the back of both his knees.
It made him stumble and stagger a little, but he didn't fall. I swore under my breath and let go of the binding cloth, just to tackle him head on. I was completely frustrated and I was tired and I just wanted this to be over. Due to him stumbling, he actually fell when I lept at him and started trying to punch him.
He was too busy deflecting my punches to notice that Shouta was quickly tying up his legs with the binding cloth. I was too busy to notice it. Only when he tapped my shoulder and I looked up, I realized that we had won. It also distracted me from the third year straight up punching me in the face.
"Ouch, fuck!" I shouted, as I rolled off of him, holding my nose.
"Dude, you lost, what the hell?" Shouta asked and bent down to me. The third year looked down and saw that he was, in fact, incapacitated.
"Ah, damn. Sorry, I didn't realize. You two okay?" he wanted to know. Shouta was looking down at my bleeding nose, as I sat up.
"It's fine. I'm okay. I think." I replied to him.
"That was a neat fire quirk you had going there." he said to me. Shouta and I looked at each other and burst out laughing.
"I don't have a fire quirk, dude." I told him. He looked confused, while there was an announcement that the match was over and we had won. Shouta pulled me up from the ground and then started untying the third year.
"What's your quirk then? What was that fire?"
"I have an illusion quirk. You were hallucinating that. Shouta can erase quirks, that's why you couldn't use it most of the time." I explained.
"Ah, I see. You put up a really good fight for two non-physical quirks like that. It wasn't cool, but it worked. Nice job." he complimented us. I looked at him confused. Did... did he mean that?
"Well, our quirks aren't cool whatsoever, but thanks." Shouta answered, as we made our way out of the arena.
