Camp Half-Blood was under attack. Several monsters, most of which Nico recognized, had gotten through the border. No one was sure how it happened, but it wasn't good.
They were low on demigods to help fight, most were back at home finishing up the school year. Nico slashed a hellhound only slightly wounding the animals.
He was busy fighting but out of the corner of his eye, he noticed Will charging into battle. Nico's heart stopped. He finished fighting the hellhound then ran over to Will.
"Will!" The blond looked his way. "What are you doing?" Nico hissed. Will was always in the infirmary helping the injured. He was never out in battle. He was always safely inside.
"Fighting!" Will ducked as a stray arrow sailed over his head.
"Go back inside," Nico told him, grabbing Will's sleeve.
"Why?" Will asked.
"Because I can't lose you. I've lost so many people, but not you. Gods, not you. I don't care what I have to do, I'll keep you safe." Will's eyes met Nico's.
"Nico?"
"Yeah?"
"Promise me I won't lose you in the process," Will begged. Nico smiled sadly.
"I'll do my best."
