Chapter Five
"Liam," I frowned.
"I'm not taking no for an answer, Britt."
Whether it was the sound of authority in his voice or the expression in his eyes, I nodded. It was so surreal to see his personality change.
"All right, Liam. I guess I am a little hungry." I quivered, trying to be polite.
He smiled a toothy smile. "Great! You'll love it."
I smiled and listened to him as he explained the restaurant to me. After a while of driving through downtown Berkeley, Liam parked us on the side of the street. I looked to my right as we arrived.
There was a building wedged between two larger buildings. It looked to be built out of some wood material. It had enormous windows where you could see in and outside of the place and in big black lettering I saw the word Eureka!
He walked over to my side, opening my door for me.
"Thank you." I muttered as he helped me out of the car.
"Don't mention it." He nodded.
We walked into the restaurant, only for me to stop and gaze around. Everything in the place gave me a lively rustic vibe. It was airy, though, a little too crowded for my liking. I smelled a mixture of fresh foods and alcohol mixed in one, but I found the scent oddly appealing.
Liam grabbed my hand and led me to a table near the back. He sat on one side and me on the other. Someone came by to hand us our menus while asking what we wanted to drink. We told him we both wanted a sweet tea, and he hurried off to get them for us.
I took the menu and looked through it, seeing many things to choose from. They had seafood, chicken, steak, and, of course, burgers. That didn't include the different alcohol they served. Everything was way out of my price range, but if I didn't get something besides the tea, he would say something to me. I needed to get the cheapest thing on the menu.
"Don't even consider it." I looked up to see Liam giving me a warning stare. His hands entwined as he rested his chin on his knuckle's, his kind face returning.
"What?"
"Get whatever you want, Britt. I'm paying." I instantly shook my head.
"No, Liam. You don't need to do that. I don't want—"
"Brittany, don't argue with me. I said I'm paying." He demanded.
I pursed my lips. I wanted to argue, but something told me that would only end badly for me. He offered to do something out of kindness and it would be rude of me to keep refusing him after I agreed to go. Still, I sensed something else here. The brief personality changes made me want to shudder as experiences made me weary.
"All right. I guess I'll order a burger since you insist." I nodded, looking away.
"You want to order what I am?" He offered.
