Chapter: Sixty-Five
"Pregnant? No, you can't be," Henry refused to believe it. I looked around desperately at the guy's faces. They hadn't known this, but had Victor? Had he purposely kept this information from us as another sick and twisted game? My hands shook as I processed this new, uncomfortable information. He wanted us to kill a pregnant woman? How evil could one person be?
He was the devil, and he was pure evil. Megan hadn't been wrong about that and neither had I. Was this true? Or was Naomi just saying this as a latch ditch effort to protect herself and her family? Wouldn't I do the same thing if I was in her situation? Whatever I could to protect the ones I loved and myself. It was what we were all doing right now. This was too much.
"I am. I don't know the gender yet but please reconsider. I don't know what you benefit from me dying, but there has to be something I can do. Maybe for Victor. Is there nothing I can do to change his mind?"
"I'm sorry, there's nothing. When he makes up his mind about something, that's how it must be. We wanted him to reconsider, but won't. We have no choice but to do as he commands," Niles said sadly.
"Then just let me live till I have the baby. Then you can kill me. Just please don't kill the baby and don't hurt my other children. If Victor says it, please don't do it," she pled.
"We are sorry, truly. I wish this didn't have to take place, but it does. In your heart, I think you know that. We can't do that. It's already gone too long. We can't wait that long," Louis spoke putting a hand through his hair.
"You don't want to do this, but you aren't human, are you? You're something else like him," she spoke.
"We aren't normal," Niles acknowledged.
"Naomi, there are people we want to protect. We know you want to protect your family as well. Sarah and Josh will be safe. We won't harm them. We don't want to harm you or your child, but unfortunately we can't spare you. We physically cannot go against Victor," Henry explained.
"Do you have a husband?" Niles asked. She shook her head.
"I divorced my older children's father, and this baby is the result of a one-night stand. I didn't even know the man's name. I just got lonely not having anyone, and I made a mistake, but my family shouldn't be punished for that. This baby should not be punished for that."
"We all agree with you, but there's nothing we can do. This is going to destroy us, too. Our kind wasn't meant to hurt humans and you know the curse. We're going to feel it strongly as part of our punishment. We have to get this over with. We're putting off the inevitable," Louis spoke.
"My child," Naomi sobbed.
"It has to be quick for her. It has to be," Henry insisted.
"Who's going to do it, then?" Niles asked.
