Chapter: Eighty-Eight
"Niles," I breathed as he rushed past me, shoving Liam against the wall.
"Niles, stop!" I pleaded.
"You showed her to him. Forget showing him to her. Now he knows for sure what she looks like. What the hell were you thinking!" He demanded, pushing him further into the wall.
Liam pushed him back and his feet skitted on the pavement.
"She needed to see!" Liam spat angrily.
"No, she didn't. She's with you, and of course, she's crying! Why did you do that?!" Niles demanded.
"Niles, please don't fight," I cried, and he turned to me, the anger leaving his eyes.
He rushed to my side, and I buried my head in his chest, sobbing loudly. "It's alright, love. I'm here now." He shushed me.
The fact that he was here now comforting me after I was the one who'd told Liam to bring me made me feel even worse. How did he even find out where we were? Did Zeke tell him after all, or did Liam himself? I pulled away slightly to look at him with blurry vision. He was still against the wall, arms crossed, a deep scowl written on his lips, and a heated glare percent in his dark eyes.
I pulled away from Niles and looked up at him. "How did you know we were here?" I asked, rubbing my eyes free of tears.
"I-
"I told him." I turned to the sound of the familiar voice and my face fell.
"Clary, now how did you know about this?"
"Guess I didn't have anything better to do and I don't listen to you," she shrugged, crossing her arms over her chest.
"Yes, I can see that. Any other reason?" he gazed at Niles before turning back to her.
"Maybe I just wanted to."
"You're so jealous of a human girl, aren't you? To look the way you do and still be so full of jealousy. It's not good for a demon," he chuckled.
"And you're jealous of Niles because he has her and you don't. You're jealous of anyone who's happy when you're not. Niles here also still has his family and I know that bothers you, too. Niles is so kind and can charm her easily. That's why you did something stupid to impress her. It's pathetic, and I expected much better from you. I guess I shouldn't do that though, right?"
"Clary, you're one to talk about jealousy and that's what's motivating you right now, isn't it?" He gave a chuckle, taking steps towards her and I stepped out to stop him, but Niles caught my arm. I looked at him pleadingly, but he shook his head at me. Frowning, I turned back to watch as he advanced on her and as he neared her, she stood straighter. He stopped right in front of her, reaching up to rest his hand on her cheek. She watched his every movement with caution, but also something else.
