Chapter: Eighty-Nine
Today was the day of Henry and Megan's wedding, but it had taken a while to get there. Peace talks had continued to go well, and they were now attempting to negotiate with Amon. That was if he would listen. The other news was mom had decided to move in with Victor and we were not happy about that. Not to mention he decided he would be paying for their wedding. I supposed after what he'd done to them; he deserved to. Not that any of us were happy about that.
"Victor has really outdone himself. He's never had children, so maybe he was just excited about getting the chance to pay for the wedding. He also felt really bad about her parents not really being involved," Mom explained proudly once we'd arrived.
She holding Abel and Susan had come out to meet us immediately, already dressed beautifully for the wedding and they explained to us they'd be helping us get ready. I tried to ignore the annoying fact everything Victor did, she thought, was the most amazing thing in the word because for once he had done something pretty impressive. He sure worked hard.
"Come on and let us show you everything. We don't have long before you need to get ready," Susan explained.
When we got to there, we couldn't even recognize it was a park, and we realized that more after we were given an official tour. There were rows upon rows of globe string lights with a variety of colored flowers hanging all around us. There were dark oak chairs lined on either side of a giant white aisle runner. At the end of the runner was a wooden arch lined with a beautifully pure white curtain tied on either side with flowered garland placed so elegantly around it.
It was beautiful, really and truly. The community buildings had been turned into makeshift dressing rooms set up for us to get ready and the third building was to be the reception area, where food was being prepared by a team of professional chefs. Large tables were being set up for all the food to be displayed. Susan had told us she and Greg had been hoping the reception could be held at Marksan's but Victor took it upon himself as we already knew.
There were already tons of people here and I doubted we knew any of them. Clearly, the devil had outdone himself for this special day and his reasons were still unclear. From what I could tell, there no one was allowed to sit in the seats just yet, but they'd probably start seating everyone soon.
"Megan, you need to get to a dressing room right now! You and Henry are not supposed to see each other!" Lily said, grabbing her by her arm and pulling her toward the makeshift dressing room.
"You know as a halfling who's actually pretty strong, I can't believe I let you guys pull me around as much as you do," she complained.
"Because you love us."
"Debatable."
Despite the fact, mom and Susan were supposed to be helping us get ready. They hadn't mentioned there was also a team of other women there to help. We were all basically abducted and forced into white silky robes, then told to sit in some cushioned chairs that made me feel like a movie star as they set to work on our hair and makeup. I didn't think I'd ever worn this much makeup, nor did I think my hair had ever looked so shiny and bountiful as it did now. I kind of looked pretty, which didn't happen often.
