Chapter Twenty-Six

As soon as he got into the car, I spoke again. "You killed people."

"Britt, not right now."

"You killed them."

"I left Lucas alive, as you asked. That's got to count for something. Even though it was likely a mistake."

"You murdered them in cold blood." I shook my head.

"They are members of a gang, Britt. They live every day knowing it could be their last. No one would miss them. Least of all Lucas."

"That's not the point. They had families and friends. Why do you have to kill them? If you have powers, then you don't have to do this. You could stop!"

"Put your seatbelt on," He demanded, starting the car.

"Liam, I'm not done," I protested, just as he spun out of the parking lot.

I gasped. My body slid into the door as he drove us out of the lot. "Liam, slow down! You're going too fast!" I quickly hooked my seatbelt as he sped down the road.

"You want to see power? This is power!" He slammed down on the gas pedal, making us go impossibly fast. He weaved in and out of road lines, narrowly avoiding hitting the various cars out on the road.

Oh, my gosh!

"Liam, what the hell?" I cried.

"We won't get hit or hit anyone. That's power, and you wanted to see, so I'm showing you," He stated.

"Liam, stop the car!" I squalled.

"You aren't going to get hurt. We're fine. Here I am doing something against my belief and the greater good for you. Then you do this. Why am I even surprised at this point? It shouldn't surprise me."

My heart was racing as I felt tears burning my eyes. "What are you talking about?" I cried.

I screamed as an SUV nearly hit the side of the vehicle. My mind spun, trying to figure out what he was talking about. This was the Liam I didn't want to see. He seemed crazed and bent on punishing me.

"Did you think I wouldn't find out about your little date?" He spat at me as if the word date was poison on his tongue.

My face paled. "Liam, he asked—"

"You should've and could've said no! But did you? No!" He yelled.

He was looking right at me. How had we not hit anyone yet? Where were the police and why hadn't they noticed this car?

"I'm sorry." I choked out, desperate for him to stop this.

"Sorry? No, no, you're not." He laughed. "You love playing this game. You love to lead people on."
