Chapter: Thirty-Eight

"Tam, you need to calm down," I begged.

"No, that's it! I can't take it anymore. If that stubborn asshole won't tell you, then I will. He'll murder me afterward, but enough is enough. They are putting you in more danger by not telling you and I won't sit here and let you get hurt anymore over those twos stupidity." He took my hand.

"Follow me." He tugged afterward, me to the back and up the stairs in a hurry.

"Tamron, what are you saying?"

"I'm saying their obsession with keeping you safe is clouding their judgment. They should have told you a long time ago, Britt. Half of this wouldn't be happening if they would have told you what they were."

"W-what are they, Tamron?" I asked skeptically as soon as we made it up to his apartment.

"Sit down. Trust me, you're going to want to sit down for this one. I used to wish I wasn't told the story, but now I'm glad I was. Because I was born to be the one to tell you. That must be it." I did as he said and sat on his bed.

Was this what Louis was talking about? Did he know Tamron was going to tell me about them? That had to be it. He looked frantically around as if he was frightened, they were somehow listening. I didn't want to risk him getting hurt just to tell me.

"Tamron, you don't have to tell me—"

"No, I know the risk I'm about to take. Trust me, I know I'm as good as dead once Leevi finds out what I've done, but it's worth it if I know you're no longer in the dark." he insisted.

"Tamron, no, you can't risk your life for me. You're one of my best friends. I won't ask this of you." I stated, and he smiled.

"You aren't asking me anything. I'm telling you because we're friends." He spoke, taking my hands in his.

"Tamron..." I said softly.

"Now, listen to me. What I'm about to tell you will seem insane, but you need to keep an open mind. I know you know Megan has healing abilities and that Loui and Aubrey have visions, but do you know the others?"

Keep an open mind... Just like Louis had told me.

I shook my head. "I know Liam and Niles have more powers than the rest of them and how Clary is telepathic, but that's it. Liam's ability has something to do with fire. Niles said he'd show me his, but with everything going on, he hasn't been able to."

He nodded, sitting beside me.

"Megan is a healer and so far, that's it. She is only half of what they are. The others are much stronger and handle more abilities."

"Is that why Henry is so worried about her?"

"Yes, she is fully capable of taking care of herself, but Henry still worries about her. See, there aren't many halflings because it's against their laws, but that doesn't stop it from happening. Like our laws don't keep us from doing things. Since there aren't many like her, we don't know what she's capable of. We don't know her limits or how far she can push herself."
