Chapter: Forty-Eight
Victor nodded to everyone before disappearing down the hallway. Niles told everyone he'd be back while I said bye before heading out the door ourselves. I couldn't help glancing back at Liam as he frowned at my retreating figure. He didn't want me there either, neither did Niles.
"You're going to be okay," Niles spoke softly.
I hoped so.
To let him know I believed his words, I squeezed his hand. I looked forward down the empty hallway and frowned once I saw Victor standing near the elevator. Couldn't he have gone ahead to his car? He smiled at us as we neared him. He pressed the button to call the elevator up to us. I took this time to look him over. He was dressed in a nice button-up dress shirt and black dress pants. His hair was slicked back slightly, with a few loose strands hanging over his forehead.
I didn't want to admit it, but he looked while good. It was no wonder mom liked him as she did. If only she knew the real him, she wouldn't feel that way towards him anymore.
"Ladies first." He smirked at me as the elevator doors opened.
Taking a shaky breath, I stepped past him and into the tiny elevator. Niles stepped in behind me, making sure to grab my hand once beside me again. Victor stepped in and pushed the button that took us to the main floor.
The atmosphere in the tiny metal box became unbearably tense, and I had to take in deep breaths every five seconds to keep from passing out. Niles sensed this and wrapped his arm around me, bringing me closer to his chest. With him here, I felt so much safer.
"You two are so cute." Victor chuckled.
The music playing in the elevator was playing at a low volume and when I usually didn't mind it, it was annoying me at this point. Or maybe I was just trying to focus on something other than Victor's little comment.
"Thank you, Victor," Niles spoke tightly as the elevator doors opened.
I let out a breath of relief as I quickly exited the thing, taking Niles with me. I heard Victor chuckle from behind us and came to a halt, almost causing Niles to trip over me. Thankfully, he had quick reflexes.
I didn't want him behind me, so I waited for him to pass by us. The same smug smirk ever-present on his lips. Niles and I stayed a few good feet back from him, refusing to walk anywhere near him. As we exited the building, I raised an eyebrow as we neared a black Ferrari. Really?
"You'll have to sit up front. I have too much stuff in the back." Victor spoke up.
No way.
I looked in the back seat regardless, thinking I could move something. Unfortunately, there were things piled to the top. Why would someone like him keep this expensive car full of things?
Maybe he did it on purpose?
Niles opened the door for me, but I stayed planted where I stood.
