Chapter: Sixty-Seven
"I hate him for doing this to me. Doing this to all of them. They won't forgive themselves."
"It will take a while, but they have done things they weren't proud of before. We all have and they've gotten over it each time. So they will again. Even I've killed when I didn't have to or need to and I have felt some remorse at times. Killing women and children isn't anyone's favorite thing to do, and we try to avoid it as much as possible."
"That's you guys, though that's not me. I don't want this and several of us don't want this. I know there's nothing we can do about it, but it doesn't make it fair. You told me to look at it almost as if it benefited the ones we love. Which is true, but that doesn't make it any better. We protected our families, but another one was changed forever. It wasn't the right choice. It was a selfish choice. Henry protected his baby? Well, someone's still died."
"Don't think of it that way. Realize you didn't know this woman or her family like you know the others. The sacrifice had to be made."
"What about all the women who went missing like Amy? Were their sacrifices necessary?" I demanded.
He shook his head, sighing. "There's no time to discuss this. We need to find Niles." He dismissed.
My eyes narrowed up at him. "You say that about everything," I grumbled.
He came to a halt, grabbing my arm to stop me as well. I looked up into his heated brown eyes. "Do you want to find Niles or not?" He snapped.
"Yes, and I want to know about those girls."
He shook his head, releasing my arm. "No, you really don't." He sighed, starting to walk again.
"If you won't tell me, someone else will." That was the truth if everything else was anything to go by.
"We'll cross that bridge when we come to it. So for now, just drop it." He advised.
Sighing, I continued to follow him down the sidewalk away from the school building. We walked a little way, turning a corner where Liam stopped. He turned to me, reaching out his arms to me.
Come here." He instructed.
I walked into his arms and held onto his torso tightly. "What if he isn't there?" I questioned, peering up at him.
His eyes met mine. "He will be."
"But what if he's not?" I pushed.
"Then we'll keep looking."
Seeing the seriousness in his eyes, I nodded, knowing he was telling me the truth. "Okay." I sighed, leaning my head against his shoulder.
I felt the familiar whoosh of air and the sense of whiplash as we teleported to the place Niles was hopefully at. I peaked my head up after a moment to look around. There were old, rusty-looking bleachers on either side of a large field with giant white goals, with the paint chipping off.
