Chapter: Seventy-Eight
Try the dress on too," Clary ordered.
This was mortifying. I was going to look horrible in this and gross. No one like me needed to be wearing something like this. I'd end up being little more than a laughingstock. They'd laugh me out of the pub. Maybe this had been Clary's plan all along to get everyone to laugh at me. I'd clearly be the least interesting thing to look at. Not that this was new. I scurried to the bathroom, not wanting them to see me. The only two to ever see me naked were Liam and Niles, and I intended it to stay that way. I pulled the dress over my head and smoothed it down my body.
"Hurry up, we don't have all day," Clary called, and I fought the urge to curse at her as I put the shoes on.
In just trying to stand up, I nearly tripped over my feet. I was going to die, and this was way too dangerous. I slowly hobbled to open the door and then nearly fell on my face had Max and Megan not reached out to catch me.
"Don't break your neck," Max frowned.
"Yes, I'm trying not to," I said, leaning on them in support to steady myself as I stood.
"You look good," Lily offered.
"I haven't looked at myself yet," I groaned.
"Well, look at the mirror. You need to try walking anyway," Clary ordered.
"I don't know if I can do that without help," I let go of them and hobbled over to look in the mirror.
In all honesty, I didn't look as bad as I thought I would, though I still wasn't sure. My curves were on display, but in a good way, that didn't make me feel self-conscious at all. I actually looked kind of good?
"Wow," I breathed.
"It looks great," Megan smiled.
"Thanks."
"Now, for the finishing touch, we're adding some makeup," Clary continued.
Great, that too? As if I hadn't gone through enough torture already.
Clary dressed last because of course she did and she looked so amazing I felt like hiding under the covers. She wore a tan low cut backless dress with a split in the leg with diamond chains. It was very revealing and left little to the imagination. Just what I needed to see tonight.
She then forced me to sit in a chair so she could do my hair and makeup. Doing my hair actually just consisted of her brushing it so much I thought it would get ripped from my head and adding a little hairspray. Then she added eyeliner, mascara, lipstick, and blush. My eyes may have watered a few times, but somehow I got through it. I didn't look as bad as I thought I would.
"Now text and tell your significant others to leave. We'll all be going together."
"Why's that?" Mattie asked.
