Chapter: Seventy-One

I walked inside Marksan's seeing how busy we were. I quickly pulled on an apron and got to work. I stood beside Greg to help ring people up. I was getting faster and thinking I was actually pretty good at this job. Although If I wasn't who I was, I wondered if they would have hired me.

"Nice to have you back," Greg smiled at me.

"Thanks, it's good to be back," I admitted.

"Yes, I'm thrilled to have more women coming here soon," Susan smiled as she carried up some of the recent orders and handed them to their recipients. I didn't know how long Susan was supposed to be staying, but it seemed like it was longer than originally planned. She seemed happy here. I wondered if she was purposely staying longer because of her family.

"Where's Tam?" I asked.

"He is on a date with Max, so I gave him the night off."

"Where did they go?"

"Dinner I think."

"That's sweet."

"Even sweeter when you realize Tamron had never dated before. I was getting a little worried about him," Susan chuckled.

"I always told her sometimes you just wait for the one. The right girl will come along and when she does, you'll never want to let her go," Greg said, and I didn't miss that he was staring right at Susan when he said this. She seemed to notice that too as she stared right back at him in surprise, understanding, and even longing?

"Yeah, that's right," she smiled, turning away. So maybe the feelings were still there for each other after all this time. After working for a couple of hours, I was finally able to take a break and enjoy my cup of coffee in a nearby booth with Aubrey. My connection to her only seemed to grow stronger now that I knew we were related. I remembered Liam holding her hand that day.

"I've missed you," Aubrey said to me.

"I've missed you too. Have you been drawing?"

"Yes, every day."

"That's good. Maybe one day you can go to England and have your work displayed at an art museum."

"Yeah, I will," she smiled. I wondered if she was just saying this as most children do or if she'd actually seen it.

"I know you will."

"Look at my drawing," she said, pulling a piece of paper from her notebook. I gasped upon seeing the drawing as I recognized it before. It was when Liam had burnt me and ultimately killed me. My past self looked terrified as the fire traveled up her body and Liam looked pained and absolutely evil at the same time. This wasn't what I wanted to see right now, and I really wished she hadn't drawn it. Talk about something to scar a child's life. Then again, maybe she was used to it.
