Chapter: Ninety-Six
"Candy."
She looked as beautiful as ever, but her face was more frightened than ever. I wanted to ask how she was doing. Where she had been. What Victor did to her and if he'd given her soul back. Was that even possible? Yet I couldn't force my mouth to ask those questions, as I was stunned.
"Britt, I need help," she said.
"What do you mean?"
"I have to speak to you about something. Can I come in, please?"
"This is Victor's house and-
"I know, and that's why I've come when I know he's not here. I don't want to come into contact with him again."
"Candy, he took your-
"He took my soul, yes, and I want to get it back, but that's only the start of my problems. Just let me come in and I'll explain everything, please. I've found out a lot of stuff and I can tell you."
"Sure," I said, gesturing her inside, and we sat across from each other in the living room.
"I came to Berkley because I wanted to find out what happened to Amy, and I did. Now I wish I didn't. Liam and Zeke warned me about what could happen to me. They threatened to hurt me and I know they would have. Then I got attacked and I still don't know who did it. I believe it was one of them I really do. Victor came and told me everything. I wished I didn't see the truth, but once I did I paid a new price. He took my soul from me, and here we are. I'm not trying to be a bad person here. I just want you to know before you get hurt. Because I'm afraid that's what's going to happen. I'm scared it will happen. I don't want another girl to die like Amy. It can't happen again. You can't let it. They'll get you killed. Can't you see it's already happened? I know even two of them lost their own baby."
"Candy calm down. I know Victor is evil and I know that the rest of them have done some terrible things, but I'm not in danger. They care about me and I'm not going to hurt me. I'm so angry about what they did to Amy and all those other girls, but they have assured me it was quick and they weren't harmed for long and-
"Oh no," she gasped as tears slid down her face.
"What is it?"
"They haven't shown you, have they? Not even Victor."
"Showed me what?"
"How they really killed them?"
"They told me he took their life forced and-
"He showed me and nothing about that was painless or quick."
I looked at her in shock and worry. She was saying she had seen and that they'd all lied to me again. Even Niles. I couldn't be sure who knew what, but I doubted Megan knew anything about what was happening the way Henry kept her out of everything. The guys and even Clary would have to. Since I'd arrived, they'd done nothing of the sort, but maybe that was why. They'd lied.
