Chapter: Seventy- Seven
"We're going to head out and get this one in bed," Henry spoke bringing Abel around for everyone to say their goodbyes before they left.
"How is he sleeping?" Mom questioned.
"He's actually sleeping through the night already, believe it or not," Henry stated proudly.
"That's wonderful. These two did nothing but cry, it seemed like," she chuckled, pointing at Jay and me.
"What can I say? Were special kids," Jay grinned as he wrapped his arms around Mattie's waist and leaned his head on her shoulder.
It was still too cute for words to see them like this. It filled me with warmth, which was something I needed a lot more of.
"He seemed to like you, Trisha," Megan smiled.
"Not as much as you, I'm sure," she returned.
"Yeah, it's just he doesn't get to see anyone else usually. My parents still haven't met him," she said sadly.
"This is their grandchild. In time they will want to meet him, I'm sure. In the meantime, you are a wonderful mom for one so, young sweetie."
"Thank you," she smiled happily.
"Your both doing a wonderful job."
"We appreciate that very much," Henry said thankfully as he walked over to let me kiss Abel goodbye.
"Bye Abel, sleep good. I love you," I cooed.
"He isn't the only one who needs to go to bed," Greg said, smiling at Aubrey.
"But I don't want to go," she frowned.
"Aren't you tired?" Lily asked.
"No," she yawned.
"You sure sound tired," Jay chuckled.
"I'm not," she insisted.
"At this hour, little girls like you really should be in bed," Susan ruffled her hair.
"Let me stay up a little longer, please?"
"Negative, it's time for bed kiddo," Liam offered, and she scowled at him
"Your so mean."
Even so, there was a hint of affection between the two of them I hadn't noticed before. Had Liam always been like this, or was he changing? I couldn't be too sure, but his choking Clary was still a reminder of what he could be and what he could do. He wasn't exactly on the good side of the moral compass and maybe never would be. If this was any indication, maybe one day he would be.
Why don't I take you up and tuck you in?" I offered.
"Okay," she nodded her head, reaching out her tiny arms to me, and I picked her up.
