Chapter: Seventy-Two

"I'm afraid we don't have a deal."

Victor-"

"It is of no concern of mine you two have conceived a child. All I care about is that the child is of interest to me."

"You leave my child alone."

"Your child belongs to me. Just as you do and just as Henry does," he said, as though explaining it to a small child.

"You can't control us. You can't control me. I never agreed to any of this, and I don't have to use my powers for you." She stood, toppling the chair over.

"You better watch the way you speak to me, little girl. For your sake, you want to be useful. How disappointed your father would be to know he raised such a foolish little halfling. Oh, wait, he does know that, doesn't he?"

"You can't do this."

I can do whatever I want. Fun fact, I could have had you killed from the time of your birth. You and your dear parents. I didn't because I was simply too interested in how you would turn out. You may have disappointed your parents, but I haven't been disappointed, my dear. Your gift has been wholly amusing. Let's not forget your little romance with Henry."

"It doesn't matter what you say. We know who wins the final battle, and it's not you," she snapped in anger and desperation. I could feel the angry tears burning her eyes as though they were in my own. Before I had time to think he had moved, grabbing her shoulders and slamming her into the wall being just gentle, enough, his intentions were simply to intimidate and not to actually hurt her. I could hear the sound of her restless heart beating wildly. She didn't bother to push him away from her, even though she desperately wanted to. He pinned her with just his arms, but she wasn't strong enough to free herself, and his hands, though gentle, were a clear warning it would hurt if she tried.

You want to know a secret? Brittany really does interest me most of all. I have hurt her and if I hurt her, you should know I have no problem hurting a pregnant girl. Foolish, just like your father always was." He took his hand, moving her hair from her face and stroking her cheek almost in a fatherly fashion as desperate tears fell from her eyes and she shook from fear violently.

"It must really be tragic to know how little your own father cares for you. How little your mother will stand up for you. How sad to know you're still looked at as a freak. Still too rare to consider a species. Not strong enough to be an angel or a demon. Tell me, are my words hurting your feelings that badly or is it the hormones? Stress isn't good for the baby and I'd imagine sadness either."

Why won't you let him go?" she cried, finally pushing against him with all her might, though he didn't even budge.

"That's just not a part of the plan. I'm having too much fun."
