Chapter: Seventy-Five

I was up early the next morning and Niles had texted to tell me the baby had arrived safely last night. Thank God. The baby everyone had tried too hard to protect was safe. Henry had given everyone permission to come find out the gender, so I wasted little time in getting ready. I'd always loved babies and this baby would be no exception.

My first godchild. Niles had invited Jay and Mattie to ride with us and they'd accepted. This time I was too giddy with excitement to request to drive or to take my car. After so long, I was full of relief and thankful happiness. Let's hope Victor, or for that matter, anyone else, didn't come to ruin it. When we arrived, everyone else was already waiting for us and we all walked in together.

This morning everyone appeared to be in better spirits after yesterday's events and I assumed the baby being born had a lot to do with that. Tamron and Max had brought Aubrey with them, and she seemed extremely excited as well. Greg and Susan were opening the shop and would be by to visit later. Jay had said mom was planning on coming as well and I really hoped Victor wasn't coming. He'd done more than enough at this point.

It gave me joy we'd all be going in to visit the new family. It would mean a lot to both of them and especially Megan that we were here in her parent's absence. I'd really hoped they'd come, or at least Eden would, to make sure their daughter was okay and meet their first grandchild. Niles hadn't said anything about them being here, and I assumed they weren't. When we reached the hospital room, Liam was the one to knock, and we all waited patiently to be allowed entry.

"Come in," Henry greeted with a wide smile as he opened the door for us to enter the hospital room. I could already see the small bundle in her arms. My heart fluttered with warmth automatically.

"Mum and baby, both okay?" Clary questioned offhandedly like she didn't care, though I got the idea she did. At this point, I think we all did.

"We're doing great," Megan answered, smiling down at the baby.

She looked so much healthier and happier than when I'd seen her last night. For a pregnancy that didn't last that long, it sure seemed to have lasted forever. Now the baby was finally here, outside her body and in her arms. Now, what gender would it be? The white blanket did little to tell me either way, and I was so curious and excited to find out. A little boy or a little girl?

"Don't everyone stand around. You can come closer," Henry chuckled.

"Well, does it have a gender or not? Or is it choosing its own gender?" Louis asked.

"If you'd come forward, you'll see. There's another blanket wrapped around and you'll tell by the color."

I walked closer with everyone else, seeing the innocent pink-faced child in blue asleep in her arms, and it filled me with so much emotion. So it was a boy then. A son just like Xavier. He looked so beautiful and very angelic. I guess that's what happened when both your parents were at least part angel. The peace on the baby's face was everything. He almost wasn't here right now, breathing.
