Chapter: Fifty-Three
Aubrey told me Victor took Candy's soul. I frowned at her. She was so smart for her age. Sometimes I forgot how young she truly was. All this time, we hadn't known what happened to her and now we knew why. He'd taken her soul, but how was that possible? If he did this as she said, then it made sense the others feared him. I rubbed a hand down her back softly.
"Listen, can you tell Tamron I had to leave early? I'll make it up tomorrow." I asked her as she turned to face me.
She gave me a small smile. "Okay." She agreed.
I smiled down at her. "Bye, honey," I said, hugging and kissing the top of her head.
She had a scowl written on her face that would have been cute if she wasn't telling me something of great importance. So, Candy was running from something? Or was she running away from someone? Maybe the guys? Maybe Victor himself? Had to be one of the two, but I was leaning towards the guys. I mean, they were there when she went missing. We all were at the hospital for Jay.
If she was in her hospital gown in the vision, then that meant Niles really didn't have anything to do with her disappearing. He was just as confused by her being gone as I was. Though a part of me still feared he knew something about it. He might not have at the time, but there was no guaranty he wouldn't have known afterward. For all, I know Victor could have told them and they just never told us. The question was now, what else had Victor done to her, and where was she?
I felt compelled to go to Victor and demand answers for myself. Seeing him was the last thing I wanted to do, but foolishly I felt like he would tell me if I asked. I gathered all of my belongings and headed out the door before Tamron of Greg could see me leaving. Being grateful to have my car back, I headed back to Berkeley. Once I arrived, I headed to his door, pausing when I saw him right at the door. Almost like he was waiting for me to come. Opening the door, he motioned to me with a kind smile.
"Come in, miss O'Neill."
I needed to leave right now. Nevertheless, I walked past him into his office. He closed the door behind him, walking over to take a seat behind his desk. He motioned for me to do the same.
Hesitantly, I took a seat in one of the white leather chairs in front of his desk. "Do you know anything about Candy Summers?" I inquired, getting straight to the point.
He quivered an eyebrow at me. "Britt, no one has seen miss Summers since her unfortunate accident." He claimed with a sheepish smirk.
I narrowed my eyes at him. "She disappeared, and no one saw her since." I challenged with a heated glare.
He smirked, "So, tell me, what makes you presume I have any idea of where she is?" He fired back. His blue eyes danced in slight amusement.
I weighed my options. If he knew it was from Aubrey's vision, he may take more of an interest in her than he needed to. Even if he promised to stay away from her, there were some doubts on whether he'd actually do it or not. Besides, he likely already knew enough about her to guess it might be her.
