Chapter: Sixty-Eight

"Maybe we should let her rest now?" I snapped my attention to Louis, who had been standing off to the side, near the door.

He looked better, but still held a deep sadness in his eyes. At least he was sober now. I tried sitting up once more and Niles helped me up. Thankfully, he wasn't protesting my decision.

"I think that's a good idea. I can keep everyone updated, but for now, let her rest." Liam explained, not taking his eyes off me.

I didn't want them to leave, and I especially didn't want Liam to leave. Even if Niles was here, I still wanted Liam here. I wanted to know about our children together. Had he explained what happened to everyone else, or did he just say I passed out?

With the help of Henry, Megan got up from her seat and came over to hug me carefully. "I'll be back later to check on you." She whispered.

"Thank you again." I smiled as she pulled away.

She nodded, moving so Henry could get to me. He surprised me by leaning down to hug me, but after a second of being taken aback, I returned his embrace. "Thank you, Britt." He muttered into my hair.

"For what?"

"Coming to get me. I was a coward, but you weren't and despite your own pain, you came looking for us. You made sure we were okay and brought us back, even when we left you to deal with this alone. Thank you." He expressed gratefully.

I pulled away, squeezing his shoulder gently. "You don't need to thank me and you don't have to apologize. You were hurting and needed some time alone. The important thing is, you're here where you're supposed to be. With your family."

He smiled, hugging me once more before pulling away and taking Megan's hand. They said goodbye to everyone else before exiting the room. Liam suddenly stood up, and I turned to him.

"I'll be right back. I need to thank her for healing you." He explained, walking out the door after them.

I smiled softly, glad he was thanking her for doing this for me. I guess it shouldn't shock me too much. He'd come a long way since I first met him, and now I hoped things would be better between us. I wasn't sure where we stood now, but I wanted to find out.

"I guess I'll see you guys later," Louis muttered, heading for the door.

"Louis, wait!" I blurted.

I tried to get up, but Niles held out his arm, stopping me. I turned to him in question and he shook his head. "You're not allowed to get up. Megan stated you need to be on bed rest for at least forty-eight hours, and that's exactly what you're going to do." He explained, and I frowned.

"But—"

"No buts. We aren't risking your life again. From now on we are keeping you under constant supervision and just to be safe we may put you in a bubble," Louis said, walking over to stand beside my bed.
