Chapter Twenty-Three
The watch was at home. A sudden urge to be close to my father poured through me. I wanted to leave to find it, but I remembered what Niles had said. They didn't want me to leave the hospital. They wouldn't tell me why, but only that this was the safest place for me at the moment. It would explain why Max and Tamron were here, but where was Lily? I had a feeling she wasn't alone in the dorms, so my guess was she was with Clary. However, the need to find the watch was strong, and I wanted to leave despite what anyone said.
Everyone turned to me as I stood. "I'll be right back."
As I walked past my friends and out of the room, I bent my head. I didn't even make it to the elevator before I felt someone following me. I let out a sigh, turning to come face to face with Megan.
"Is everything okay?" She asked.
"It's fine." I said, turning to press the button that called the elevator.
"Then where are you going?"
The elevator doors chimed open, and we stepped in. I pressed the button for the ground floor as I turned to her. "Nowhere."
"I know you're lying."
"I'm not—"
"Liam and Niles care about you. We all do. So whatever it is you're thinking of doing, wait until it's safe to leave."
"I'm just going to my house. I'll come right back after."
"To get your father's watch?"
"Yes, so I'll—"
"Just wait until they say it's safe. I'm sure they'll—"
"No." I shook my head. "I have to go now."
The elevator stopped, and I hurried onto the floor, heading for the entrance, with Megan trailing behind me. Suddenly, I felt a sharp pain in my eyes. I placed my hand over my temple, a groan escaping my lips. I had to lean against a nearby wall. Everything spun. Megan stopped, giving me a wary look.
"Britt, you okay?"
"Yeah, my head just started hurting. The entire room is spinning. Just give me a second." I breathed, closing my eyes tightly.
"Here, let's walk over to that bench over there." She said, placing her arm around the small of my back. I wrapped my arm over her shoulders and let her guild us to the bench. Once sitting, I rested my elbows on my knees and leaned over with my head in my hands. The room was still spinning, and I felt the need to puke. I groaned once more than the sharp pain bounced against the back of my eyelids. I had migraines, but this was on a whole new level.
"Britt, are you sure you're okay?" Megan asked in worry.
"Mm-hmm..." is all I could manage out.
"Have you eaten at all today?"
